MEDIA RELEASE
SANFL UNDER 18 TIP TOP ACADEMY ANNOUNCED

The SANFL is pleased to announce the Under 18 Tip Top Academy for 2007.
The concept of the Under 18 Tip Top Academy began in 2002, with the initiative to allow talented players under the age of 18 years the opportunity to engage in specialist training from the SANFL Talent Coaching Staff. This training is held in preparation for the 2007 Under 18 National Championships.
Under the guidance of newly appointed Talent Manager, Brenton Phillips, the squad of 44 “stars of the future” will begin their specialist training in December. The training will consist of 2 weekend camps in December and January, followed by further training throughout February. During this time, a number of practice matches will take place to help prepare the coaches in their quest to find potential Under 18 State players for the Under 18 National Championships.
On completion of the Academy in February, all players will return to their SANFL Clubs for the start of the 2007 SANFL ‘be active’ League season.
The SANFL wishes to thank Tip Top for their continued support of the Under 18 Tip Top Academy.

Disappointing to only see 1 dogs player in the list, but boy can that kid play. Played u16 state two years ago as an u15 and some reserves footy this season as an u16. Looking forward to following his progress closely.

Well done to all selected.

I am glad this time Glenelg have only 3. Last season these U18 games didnt help our season with players like Gibbs, Seller and Austin who played league level all gone for a couple of weeks when we really needed them playing for us.

I understand where you're coming from Troy - as they were quality players for you this season.
But, I'd be worried if your club was relying on under 18s to be the big difference, as I'd be worried if my club was relying on them as well. Says a little about the depth at the Glenelg and what's required to top up the current playing group - as they're all gonna be gone next season (as of today).

From a CDFC perspective - it worries me when I only see one name from our club on that list, from a junior development perspective.

A couple of others would have been close DW, but the two age groups being selected from (next years u18 and u17 aged players) are two of the leanest years, talentwise, that the club has experienced in some time. I would expect Dylan to be joined by up to 5 or 6 others next year and the year after that is looking like a 'bumper crop'. As a snapshot, it may look concerning but as part of the bigger picture it is a pimple on an elephants arse.
