"Veteran's List" (Salary Cap)

Postby Wedgie » Wed Nov 22, 2006 6:23 pm

Ive heard recently that there's a veterens list in regards to the SANFL salary cap but don't remember talk on this before.
As Ive been told only a certain % of the players income is counted towards the cap (similar to the AFLs) and there are certain criteria for a player to be eligible.
Does anyone know how this works exactly or is it a new initiative coming in for 2007?
If there is one I understand that Wintle and Bamford become eligible for it next year giving North further room to move on top of Hargs and Koops going and the increase.
Im assuming the criteria would be something like 10 years service to your club?
Many people think of others at other clubs that might become eligible?

Does it include 17's,19's and Two's games as well? If so is a good idea, should reward players who stick by one club.

I would think Peter Walsh at Westies would be eligible.

Thats an interesting one RAB, it probably depends on whether it's 10 consecutive years??

James Gallagher and Scott Bassett would be in the same boat I'd imagine ... If it includes Junior grade then I'd imagine Scott Borlace would qualify for Norwood also.

If it is ten years of League service, that's too long. Should be 8 at the most.

But anyway, that would mean Colville, Hall, Frewen and Floreani would be the Eagles qualifiers (for next year).

Heard tonight that the 10 years includes AFL service but its a bit stupid in that if a player players games at another SANFL club it doesn't count.

For eg John Smith might play 1 year for North and 9 years for Carlton, return to the SANFL and be included on the veterans list for NOrth.
John Doe might play 4 years for South and 8 years for North and won't be eligible.

Wedgie, Im hoping this system would preclude John Smith from playing 9 years at Carlton then joining North and becoming eligible in his 2nd year there??
