Extra Spice in the Eagles v North Clash

Postby sus » Tue Mar 28, 2006 12:07 pm

There is extra interest and spice in the Eagles v North game generated by the fact that a few players will be playing against their old clubs. ie - Grocke, Oakley (now Eagles and last year at North) and OHara (now North and last year at Eagles). The OHara v Dabrowski/Lindsay (if Lindsay gets a game) clash looms as especially significant. Did OHara play in the trial last week - he wasn’t named? Is their an injury cloud hanging over him?

What about other games? Any more examples of players playing their FIRST game against their old club?

Although not as a player, Stephen Rowe for Glenelg vs Norwood.

Rested along with a heap of other league regulars. Will be an interesting match with the change of club players. Oakley seems to be doing reasonably well and he could well prove a few people wrong - including myself, but time will tell as it early days yet and the real stuff hasn't started.

Plenty of interest in the match at Prospect this week. North will be looking for revenge for last year's finals exit and the Eagles will want to make O'Hara wish he never left. Will be interesting to see what type of reception he'll get from the Eagles supporters. Bring on round 1!

I guess if we're using that logic then Paul Sandercock for Glenelg vs Norwood aswell.

Rested from what? Couldnt be any extra training on the track or gym - from what Ive been told he never does any of that! And why would anyone want to "rest" the week out from the beginning of the season - this is the most important hit out of the trials. Common come clean, you seem to know a bit about the NA injuries Drebin (refer your other post). What is his injury?

He hasn't got one - he was rested - he had already played 3 trial games. There were others rested as well:

Koops & Ivens - both with minor injuries but if it a was home and away game both could have played. Throw in Leigh Ryswyk, Scott Bamford, Nick Gill, Matthew Krieg also rested. Josh Coulter was also unavailable due to injury and Brett White and Clint Alleway both off before 1/4 time injured. If it was a "serious" hit out do you think Hargraves or Ladhams would have played ressies as well?

We won't have Alleway this week, Cox still finding fitness and will play ressies, Coulter and maybe Brett White - concussion. Everyone else is fine - even the 'lazy' Brett O'Hara!

I thought they played ressies because they were disciplined. If it wasnt a serious measure, and would not have been done if playing for points, then why do it - what effect did it have? Kind of defeats the purpose doesnt it?

And I still dont believe the players listed would have been "rested" without a reason. Were they showing the strain from a tremendously stressful trial game program? I think not! Maybe NA are going so well that these players dont need match fitness or practice.

Sus - all the clubs have rested players through the trials or played them for half a game here and there. Centrals had 4 or 5 out plus a couple playing ressies so there's no conspiracy, hidden injuries or arrogance. It is a long season after all so why bust your guts this time of the year?

sus, maybe the coach didn't want to show his full hand in a trial game. But I tend to agee - the week before the real stuff you want to start settling down your team.

That doggies is exactly why Jars rested a host of players - not to show his hand until it counts.

Well given North's record against us (1 little blur when we were going shit) I can see that he may think he's a chance to win some points off of us this year.

Err because players need to be match hardened. Put it this way - if those few players, inc OHara were rested for no apparent reason other than to give them a break (whatever that means), then I think its a tactical mistake - players need all the match practice they can get at this time of year.

Further note that NA have a bye in round 3 (also 11, 15) - wouldnt they freshen them up in a months time? So all this talk about it being a long season is a lot of twaddle, especially if the players are managed properly.

I guess we find out this week whether it was a good idea or not, should be a very interesting game, the games last year were good to watch and now theres a few debutants playing against former teams.

Will we get a start like the one at Woodville last year??

Sus each coach uses different player management tatics. Have a look at the other teams lists from last week and see how many players didn't play that will play this week or how many that did play were only given a half. Sturt for example took a number of their better players of at half time - both the last two weeks from all reports. Really what else do you want to have a go at - do you really hate north that much? So what if we rested them - it will be an excuse if we lose - we were underdone!
