Bugger :( He'd had a pretty good run with injuries to this point.

Didn't appear to be to much in it when watching on TV. Fairly innocuous

I watched the game yesterday on TV, mainly so I could see the Nick Liddle punch to Lachy Earls head again in the 3rd quarter, and I agree, didn't think much in it - just a shame it took their trainers so long to get out to him, then 3 times as long to get him off.

Even at half time, the Channel 7 bloke, Tim (?), reported that it wasn't an ACL. Hopefully he can get up and about soon.

Not easy to diagnose an ACL injury without any images to look at.

Although I dont think a decision has been made on his playing future, as yet, Central Co-Captain Brad Symes was on a track with the Bulldogs last night.

He would be an idiot to continue playing.

I'm sure he will take due dilligence with medical consultation and the like...

Perhaps he is just helping out his team-mates by being out on the track?

Kris Grant's gut-feel (that is a pretty big gut !!!) is that Symes will not play on...

More bad news on the injury front for South Adelaide...

Panthers' web site wrote:South Adelaide first gamer Lewis Makepeace will consult with a specialist after scans revealed he had ruptured his ACL.

Makepeace injured his knee in the second quarter when he went to block an Eagles player and took no further part in the game.

Forward Jackson McMahon will also see a specialist after scans showed that his knee injury was a result of a dislocation when he got tangled with his opponent in a marking contest also in the second quarter. He is likely to require surgery with his time period on the sidelines yet to be determined.

Roland Ah Chee’s hamstring injury will sideline him between two to four weeks.

In better news for the Panthers Todd McKay and Pat Kerin should resume this week from hamstring injuries and longer term injured Scott Taylor, Sam Tharaldsen and Bryce Damin are all a chance for their first games of the season at reserves level. Forwards Lachie Boyd and Darcy Hourigan should return the following week.

Looking at the vision of Makepeace's incident could the Hickinbotham oval surface contributed? It looked horrendous on that SANFL review segment.

Was thinking the same. Looked as though he lost his footing on a sandy patch of the oval.

In previous years Noarlunga has been in very good condition.

We mentioned a couple of times during the RPH call of the game that players seemed to be slipping over too easy on that outer side, when there hadn't been any rain prior...

Chris Kendall mentioned in the call as well that he went out for a walk around the oval during the Reserves half time break and mentioned that the wing on the outer side, and the half forward line down the southern end was very soft under foot and quite sandy as well as a couple of small patches around the ground, including near when Makepeace went down and the vision backs that up...

Personally, I think that contributed to the amount of players slipping over and the Makepeace injury, as well...

What's the answer in these instances?
Do the Umpires walk around the oval, prior to the start, and decide if it is playable (up to SANFL standard) or not?

If a player gets, not only a career ending injury but, an injury that ends their work career as well, is there any re-dress to the SANFL and in particularly to the umpires, who allowed the game to take place?

I realise there will be insurance in place to cover loss of earnings, medical, etc, but could the player's insurers then chase after the umpires who allowed the game to take place or alternatively their insurers?

I think you will find that the 2 clubs playing that day sign off on the ground conditions before any game is played that day which is part of the insurance policy

Fraser Dale has no structural damage, so some good news, however it would be doubtful if he were to play this week, really good footballer but has a skinny build which may have been why Carlton delisted him, one of those body types that don't bulk up leaving him vulnerable to injury.

;)

Bad luck for the big bloke, has had a bad run over the last few years. Hope he recovers to get back to SANFL level.
