Three Sided Football

Postby Doddy » Thu Jun 18, 2015 2:12 pm

Three teams on the field at once, 8 a side, circular deck with one goal you attack and two you defend.

If you work in town, spend 30 minutes at lunchtime at the Samstag Gallery (at UniSA City West, North Tce). There is a sports exhibition on, the best part of which is a 30 minute video installation showing the creation of a new type of football over a few weeks in Horsham VIC, ending with a demonstration game. The artists convene lots of street conversations and after-training meetings to get the people to design the sport, and then host the game at the end.

It was so cool to see art come to sport, to even think of bending the footy concept this much, and to see just how keenly the footy purists ran with the concept.

Anyway, if you have time, get along, pretty sure its still on for the next 2 weeks at least.

Wouldn't that solve our falling attendances - three team's supporters at the same game!

I came up with the same concept when I was about 13.
People told me I was an idiot.
I was so sad....
Anyway I would be interested to see how my "vision" turned out. I'd then like to seek out those who mocked me, and stare at them with a smug look on my snout.
I never envisaged a reduction in player numbers, but it'd make sense to do it.
Other ideas I had were "marathon boxing" over 20 kms, where you have the option of beating the crap out of people who run faster than you, and a four square tournament enlarged to "16 squares" with 2 teams and points allocated to which squares are occupied at the end of each game.
Mock me if you will, but the advent of three sided footy indicates that perhaps these other ideas will also be made real by other thinkers.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

Naked women's tennis would get me watching more.

Come to think of it naked women's any sport would, there'd be some great angles at the scrum in women's rugby! :P

They're things I thought about at 13.

(And still do)

Use hoverboards from Back to the Future and play in a dodecahedron.

Dodecahedron Football League* (TM)

12 sides, each side only plays one other side, so 6 balls are in play and 12 set of goal posts. Makes for a bit of fun when trying to "go to the fat side".

I'd like to claim rights to this when the league eventuates.

With heavy duty lances attached for jousting.
Car jousting! That'd work!

Horse racing with no jockeys. Make it even and the smartest horse would win.

Better, get wild horses to chase the jockeys.
Sorry, I have no idea how much jousting sticks cost.
