I repeat... PYMAN OUT !!!

Postby LPH » Mon Jun 04, 2007 2:53 pm

I assume that some of you will now 'eat humble pie' & acknowledge my post was "on the money". 8)

The problem at South hasn't changed, they are VERY ordinary & I think Pyman is the reason.

Also, an acceptance of mediocrity (i.e 4th place last season being 'enough')

Clearly, he doesn't have the support of his players.

Am I wrong ?

I don't follow South so I wouldn't have a clue ... Would have thought other non-Panther fans would be in the same boat?

Surely South can not afford ($) to get rid of him. He has just been re-appointed for goodness sake.

Disturbing signs for South but wasn't he reappointed by the Board not long ago? so why do people like Col Francis and good old Dom and good old Dave and the rest of them escape any sort of scrutiny?

Read other posts on here Eagle where you started the tread and you will see you are on the money.

I agree, he should be gone but so should others who hide and deflect blame.
Players are disinterested and Pyman has lost their respect.
He has been signed till the end of 2008.
Some of our so called "big name" players have signed up for a few years.
Will it ever change down there????

Tough times ahead me thinks. :?

I think that south have real problems.I hate to say this but after watching the game v wwt and yesterdays capitulation at Noarlunga you would have to say all is not well. While some may say we cant afford to sack the coach because we cant afford it ,I would say if the coach is the reason we cant afford not to sack him. It is up to the board to ask some pointed questions ,find out what the issues are from the senior playing group and address them urgently. If that means the board eating humble pie, then so be it.

My understanding is that pyman was re-appointed due to the interest shown in him by Sturt. Far out. This has a McLeod/groom feel about it.
But it was more than a victory for Greece. It was a stirring example to free people throughout the world of what a few brave men can accomplish once they refuse to submit to tyranny.

There have been rumblings there among the players at least for about 3 years. Was the club better off trying to hang on to Anderson? From memory they wanted Anderson to play locals and not recruit, then they brought in Pyman and suddenly South have unlimited recources. From my distant vantage point I would have thought with the reputation and rapport Anderson had going they were better off sticking with him and letting him work with more of a recruiting budget.

Yeah, I still cant work it out.

One minute locals then NO, recruit interstaters (ex AFL) who want s**tloads of $$$$ doing sweet F.A thinking the ball will be a magnet to them. Its a wake up call. If I was handing out the $$$ after Sunday - they would not get it!!

Get a ground you can play football on might help. How can you keep players more than a year when they have to play on that windswept cold barren lump of ice ? And to have to train on it !!!!!!
Sorry but thats what most non South supporters would say.

Board? That is the other joke at Noarlunga atm. Two of your supposed Board Members haven't attended meetings for months so what does that say about that supposed new regime that got rid of blokes like Peter Alexander who did a fantastic job.

Those issues, your "Mr. Personality" coach that it seems no-one at South likes, the usual arry of disinterested over paid interstate recruits and cars around that hell hole of a ground make your club a joke going nowhere.

I see South now want to put lights up for night games. I suppose it will be easier to hide the frozen bodies at night? Night games and cars around the ground - it will be just like going to the "Drive in Movies" FFS!

I opposed the decision to terminate Andersons contract, it was not done because of form, the club wanted Ando to work full time, Ando said that he could not right now as he was setting up his business and needed another year to work on it, yet after the year he was more than happy to be full time. Souths management then said no and terminated the contract which was a huge mistake. Anderson had gone as far that his business that he owned was a sponsor of the SAFC. He was putting his hard earned $$$ to support the club that he coached. Considering Souths current problems revolve around commitment to the jumper, I cant see how Greg Anderson could have been any more commited to it! Instead we get someone who "renegotiates" just prior to the start of the season threatening to leave if we dont better an offer from Sturt......

The South board were in a bit of a tricky situation at the end of last year weren't they. They would have had pressure from the members to resign Pyman, after all, he had just guided them to within a whisker of a Preliminary Final and all was looking good for this year. In the end, they lost a couple of their star players - Davey to the AFL and Cupido (seemed to be a major stuff up). They haven't had full use of their other two stars in Kenna and Archard.

South appear not to be well run as far as the football department is concerned. Pyman must take responsibility and the club itself for mismanaging the salary cap and probably not choosing the right type of people to take the club forward. I'm not sure Anderson would have made any difference. It seems the SAFC, more so than any other club, are destined for mediocrity. I take my hat off to those supporters who follow them week in week out. Must be frustrating.

I am not going to comment on rumoured rumblings, player discontent, board inadequacies or any of that sort of stuff that I and most others know little about.

What I can comment on is the embarrassing lack of genuine support for the football team. Sure, South are never going to have the following that my club and others are priviledged to have, but let's be candid about things. Without a word of a lie, when South ran out onto the ground you could hear a pin drop. One or two claps where I was standing on the hill made it laughable, and the same claps when Warren booted the first goal. If there were 1974 people at the game, then without exaggeration 1600 of them were clad in Double Blue, and half of the 374 South supporters were in their cars, when apart from a shower in the first quarter, the weather was fine.

At Unley late last year south would have had doublr that amount, at an away ground too.

South fans need to get out there and support their club no matter what the weather, circumstances, discontent with the coach or whatever. Until they start doing that, they will be a laughing stock for years to come.

Yeah, I had to laugh at the end when the roar of the Panther went dead. I went to the game with 4 Sturt mates and I must say I was a tad embarrassed. I even had a chuckle. I think the guy went to sleep!!!

I attend games regularly. I think last year we had more supporters come out to others grounds then home. I think this needs to be addressed.

We all know with success people will follow. I really think alot of passionate South supporters are at breaking point. You could see it them on Sunday and talking to a few that we there it has come to a point.

We have heard all the excuses in the world over the years. Getting a Structure, Injuries, blooding juniors through etc....etc...but really how much is enough?

No wonder at the moment we are the laughing stock of the SANFL. :(

I think had you stuck with Anderson, you wouldn't have given the Eagles a shake last season. For every club last season waqs a prime time to strike while the dogs were a little down. The eagles were handed the front running by 7 other clubs and "only" had to beat their dogs fears to be the last ones standing. In the end they were barely challenged and even then it was only a team that was in a rebuilding phase that was willing and able to make any sort of stand in September. I've often had a go at Fuller and the Eagles for not making changes to challenge the dogs earlier but they did at least refuse to sell themselves out for the sake of it and kept at it. In the end their persistence paid off where many other clubs would have given up somewhere around 2004. Other clubs need to look at the Eagles and Centrals and realise that theses are among the most stable clubs in the comp. I feel Centrals are the most proactive and obsessive when it comes to improving and this makes the difference between 5 flags and 1 in this period. If other clubs were to be honest with themselves I'm sure they would conclude they could, should and need to realise the important changes are often not the drastic cleaning out but the quiet addition of a new part to the old.
