Norwod's Pokies Venue

Postby topsywaldron » Wed Jul 04, 2007 10:51 am

From the official site.

Today is the day!!! After three long years the Norwood Football Club has finally opened its venue! To be known as “The Nor East Gilles Plains” the facility is located at 583 North East Road Gilles Plains (across from the Holden Hill Police Station). The ultra modern building has full dining and bar facilities along with 40 gaming machines and opens at 8am this morning. Norwood Football Club President Joe Tripodi and his board extends their thanks to everyone who contributed to the venue and it being able to open today (Wednesday July 4th).

One piece of good news in what's been a terrible week.
'People are not stupid. They know when they are being conned. And two reserves teams operating in a League competition will reduce it to a farce, a competition without a soul.'

Well done Norwood.

Hopefully more success than the last couple of businesses in that building. Might have to pop in for a look before the end of the week.

I don't understand the relevance of time in this discussion mate, those people who suffer from an inability to control their habits don't go by the clock imho.

Have you ever been in a pokie room at 8am!???
How many people are in a pokie room at 8am!!??
Is that good business!!??
No, it maximises expenses for minimum income and thus whatever income they do get... comes from the desperately addicted.
8am!!!

Took a while to get to your point ... So are you trying to say that if instead of operating between say 8am-Midnight they were running between 11am-3am, the "desperately addicted" wouldn't be affected?

Oh and BTW, yes I have been in pokie rooms and casino's at 8am on a number of occasions

No, you're still missing it.
The very ethics of letting anyone use a poker machine at that hour is wrong.
Who gets the craving to play the jinglies at that hour.
3am etc there are people who have been going out that night that might come in hammer drunk or something, or using it as a (weird) social occaision.
People wanting to use a poker machine at 8am are people in need of help.
The opening times encourage this.
And i think, as should anyone with a decent sense of ethics, is wrong.
My football club has pokies.
I don't mind them being there, but i CERTAINLY don't like some of the people it attracts near the club.
The club opens at 10am regularly, and 11 on a public holiday.
Those hours are reasonable.
8am is just plain ridiculous, for the staff it has to hire, the cost of running it, and the amount of patrons they will get at that hour.
Not to mention encouraging people to feed their addiction.

I think we'll just have to agree to disagree ... I don't think I missed ur point, I just don't agree with it ... People suffering any form of addiction whether it be gambling, alcohol, drug whatever, aren't usually governed by time IMHO ... And yes I also know people who have/do suffer from each of those mentioned afflictions.

Somebody blowing their weekly paycheck at 8am has exactly the same destructive consequence as them blowing it at 5pm surely?

At least it gives them 9 hours to think about it before it is gone, or 9 hours to spend a bit of it on their family.
But ok.
Let it sleep.

So titty car, you advocate a nanny state? Where choice is taken away from the community and we rule against anything that may be harmful?

Chop down all trees, for fear that a child may fall from one?

Remove all cars from the road, as there have been accidents where people die?

Real help for pokie addicts does not come in the form of opening later, as they will go buy scratchies or find something else to get them by.

Back off man.
A nanny state?
That's an extreme.
What i'm saying isn't an extreme moron, rather, just a reasonable measure to keep patrons who SHOULD NOT be there at that time of day somewhere else but a nearby pokie venue.
Just to take the temptation away for a few hours.
Thats all.
Stop being so freakin unreasonable here.

And titty car??
God, i think your the third person ridiculous enough to try that same line.
Implant Nissan was probably the better one i've heard, alternative name for heroin
