Darel Hart in 1993 was another. No I don't think it will happen again, probably a bit too advanced in tactics now, even in the SANFL.

Barry Goodingham at Woodville in 79-80. First coach to get them into the finals, in '79, but after one loss, ordered all players to run from Oval Avenue to Outer Harbor...while he took a taxi there and back.

Ricky MacGowan tried his hand at assistant coaching and playing a couple of seasons ago didn't he? Personally I don't think it's likely but wouldn't rule it out completely. I can imagine a very ambitious player from the AFL trying it once their AFL careers are done but want another year of footy, or perhaps a late change or midseason change to a coaching position.

If Pyman quit in a few games time would Sampson be the worst cantidate to take the riens for the rest of the season?

Sturts last playing coach was Mervyn Keane in 1985, he stopped half way through the year when he got knocked out.

If i recall with my hazy memory - he smothered a ball with his face against North on a wet day?

Is it of benefit for a club to have a playing coach?
I’ve played under one or two in country footy and it sucked pretty bad, would any SANFL club want a playing coach?

Nope, he was sandwiched between a jumbo and a newsreader.

I think one of the Jarman brothers kicked it. He was out for the count.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Don't know if anyone would remember but didn't Doug Thomas offer Shaun Rehn the position of playing coach to Shaun Rehn when he left the Crows before he went to Hawthorn which wasn't so long ago. I wouldn't rule out the possibility.
