Pine Lodge Studio SANFL DVD's

Postby CK » Wed Aug 22, 2007 8:33 pm

Hi everyone,

Some fans may not be aware that Pine Lodge Studios release DVD's of all non-ABC-TV matches. For $20, which includes postage, you can buy a DVD of your club's game. Some of these feature the radio commentary from either 5RPH or Life FM, but we are gradually expanding to produce "in house" commentary of selected games also. This week, for example, we will be calling the Central v Sturt match at the ground. A number of media people, such as myself, John Nankivell, Kym Morgan (Messenger), Daniel Frangos (Sportsbeat) and many others call the matches.

Please call Charles on 8271 1669 for a copy. They are generally available by the Tuesday after the match, but feel free to ring in business hours and reserve a copy early.

Cheers
Chris

Do Pine Lodge feel this is a possible business venture, or are they just refining their skills for some other venture? I can't personally imagine there would be enough business gotten out of retailing DVDs of SANFL minor round games.

Grahaml, that would be better answered by Charles, but essentially, it is a core part of the business and the feedback and sales thus far indicate a key market is there for it. It's pretty similar to "Name A Game" which the AFL - albeit with a much larger market - have supported for years.

They've been doing it for years, Ive been getting DVDs from them since 2003 and they used to do them in VHS in the olden times.
They used to just do them for the clubs (coach viewing, etc) but have expanded slowly but surely so I'd be pretty confident in saying if they could sustain business from just selling to clubs to going public they should do OK out of it.
Charles has also tried various formats and has done some reserves game.
I got the North v Centrals DVD and that even included the minileague with separate access to that from the menu.
Also the original price of $35 a DVD has come down to $20 so its great to see Charles passing savings on.

After the game of Sturt and the dogs I think they had a phone melt down. someone mentioned on db.org that before they could get a word out Charles was 'asking not a Sturt supporter are you?'

I can vouch for that, he asked me that same thing before I could tell him I was after a Sturt game

also on Wedgies comment about extras on the DVD's, I got a copy of the Sturt v Norwood night game and it included the full footage of the legends game

I'm genuinely surprised. I didn't think the SANFL would generate enough business for someone to do this sort of thing throughout the year. Good on them for pursueing this and making it work.

CK - how far back can you go?

For instance, if I wanted to get my hands on the Eagles v Port game from Woodville late last season, would that be possible?

(My son's first visit to an SANFL game - seriously no other reason to own it)

correct, he has a little studio on opey ave in unley where the magic happens. I got my first pine lodge DVD in 1998 when sturt beat south at arctic park. and been collecting them since. that first one was vhs, no comms but it was great to be able to get the video by the monday or tuesday and watch it again!!!

he does other work and this isnt just his sole business but its turning into a nice little extra for him.

I think i must say that I opened this little window for Charles back in the day as me and dad were searching high and low for non abc taped games and i think the SFC gave us charles number or we found him ourselves. 8)

so thank me guys (and charles) ;) :D

I've got all the North games they've done so far this year including the South v North at Polar Park game with footage of Punky in the legends match.

Good quality, and some pretty good commentary too. John Nankiville is a top commentator IMO.

Can't wait for the North v Centrals one to arrive.

A big, big thanks to BR for sorting them out for me. Another top bloke.

Yep I can vouch for that too. I do wish Charles would bung up a website and take payment by CC or paypal though. It seems a bit antiquated to make the phone call then send off money by snail mail or drop it in his letter box.
Love the DVDs though.
