Welcome to Alberton Oval, where we see the 9th placed Port Adelaide Magpies host the League Leaders West Adelaide in what should be a most fascinating encounter. The Bloods have had a sensational start to the 2011 season, unbeaten in their 3 SANFL matches to date and complemeted by a more than convincing Foxtel Cup victory. The Magpies on the other hand have been anything but consistent, however, seem to playing a far better brand of football than they have for quite a while. So, whilst the two teams are at completely opposite ends of the spectrum of the ladder, this game could well surprise – particularly with the rain which has been around in the last 24-48 hours.

It goes without saying, the battle of the mid-field could well decide the result and on a day where the ball may well spend a lot of time on the ground, the ruck duels are certain to play a crucial part, as giving first use to their respective little men will be imperative.

The Bloods are averaging just over 33 tackles per match to date this season and will need to be very tough in the clinches against the Magpies who average just under 42 tackles per match.

The one stat that is the ultimate litmus test for earning the ball is the conversion of inside 50’s to goals – because there’s nothing like efficient scoreboard pressure particularly on a wet day.

The Bloods are second in the League behind the Bulldogs in this critical area with a conversion rate of 31.05% when entering the attacking arc. Conversely, the Magpies have a rather modest 22.02% goals to entries and this is where the Bloods could very well hold the deciding advantage.

But football can be a funny affair and the side who adapts best to the conditions and maximises their opportunities will take the valuable 2 points.

For my mind, it will be the Bloods, but stranger this have happened – and the way the form line has read from of a lot of matches this season, nothing would surprise.

MY TIP – BLOODS by 23 points.

LIVE @ ALBERTON OVAL

Final Score in the Reserves - Port Adelaide Magpies 18-12(120) West Adelaide 3-4(22)

A very convincing 98 point Margin and coach Darren Mead kept the players out on the park to sing the Club Song with the strong contingent of supporters in full voice with them. A great sight and creates a great atmosphere for the League match due to commence in about 17 minutes.

Depth is thin because there are so many injuries at the club. I would think 14-15 from the league or reserves

Just some slight drizzle starting to fall, but little breeze to speak of....the umpires are out on the ground as are the Bloods but yet to see the Magpies....Bloods going through a very fast paced and structured warm up.......looking very sharp and up and about for this clash.

Magpies finally take the field and yes Jim, it was a very insipid performance from the Bloods Reserves...............disappointing to say the least!! Plenty to like about your League outfit though and looking forward to watching them live for the first time this season
