Receiving end of a heavy bump? That's an interesting assessment.

To be fair, that is an SANFL story and SANFL staff can't be seen to be making commentary on an issue before the tribunal.

Bet you he gets 5 weeks so he's back for the North game.

If he gets 5, the belief is that he would not be able to play against North (or any side for that matter). The word going around (which I cannot verify its accuracy) is that he has missed 12 games through suspension already. Thus, four games or more would mean the end of his career.

Not quite right mate, he's been suspended for 4 in the past , not 12.

Anything less than 8 weeks would be pathetic, the tribunal must make a massive statement with this one.

He is not a thug. It was a split moment decision. But he should get at least 5 games if the SANFL is serious about protecting the head. If it's career over for brad that's a massive lost for the dogs

Split moment, have you watched the footage? He lines Symes up from at least 8-10 metres away and there is nobody else in the area.

Agree. It was one of the worse things I have seen on a footy field. Premediated and violent.

And here was I thinking they'd already done that with the five weeks Clinch got.

Grocke must not have seen the memo.

Haven't got much to add to the general vibe on the incident itself. But do we look at implementing a rule for intentional (and reckless?) incidents where we determine the offending player can't return until the injured player is given the all clear to play? Hand down the penalty, but then also say if a player has a broken jaw or something that until that jaw is healed you're not playing either. Those rare moments when a suspended player returns first does always feel like an injustice. I don't think it's too much either to tell players if you go outside the rules that far and injure someone that severely you also have to take some responsibility for the outcome.

On Symes himself if he does retire that would mean he will never log 100 senior games of football for anyone. I hope they don't gift him a farewell game though. Senior games are earned, not given.

Unless you're a reserves top up player. (Sorry but I had to make that point.)

I hope Symes does get back though. Always rated him very highly. Couldn't believe the Crows cut him, and it would be most unfortunate for a player's career to be ended like that.

Rubbish, that's a cowardly thug act and there's no getting around it .. 6 games should be a minimum penalty. Don't need that in the game at any level

Pity there wasn't a big screen there with a replay. would of made the rest of the game more interesting and could of possibly changed the outcome with the players knowing exactly how the fans felt and that mongrel Grocke getting booed every time he went near it.. I saw it at the time but was 100 mts away and it didn't look good but after seeing the footage ....well that is just gutless thuggery against one of the fairest and best players in the comp. Dog act.

Thanks for that, Wedgie. It is the seventh time he has been reported since 2009 though, I see. I am very surprised that he was not reported at all in the seven years prior to 2009. My recollection was that he had been a few times. According to the SANFL though, he hadn't been. Strange he would get reported seven times in five years but none at all in his first seven. Wonder what made the change with Adam?
