As at 30 June Norwood had 2,342 members. This is about 400 more than last year.

North's up to 2,664. Pretty good!

Reckon a premiership could spur them toward the 3,000 mark next year.

I think the clubs suffer from young people who play football themselves and can't really afford to pay a membership. Especailly if they aren't getting much out of it. That is my issue.

I was a member when i was real young, even though i lived in the country but in the past couple of years i really didn't see why i would do it despite loving my club and sticking with them through the hard times.

Playing footy in the hills, i've only been able to get to 5 or so Bays games all year which is a shame and probably the reason i'm not a member, perhaps i'll reconsider next year and i know for sure once my playing days are over i'll be paid up and drinking a cold one on the hill week in week out.

Stevie k I understand you point of view, but as we have discussed on this site on Snouts Louts most of us view our membership as a donation, knowing that we'll never get our true value for it.

E.g I have been a member for the past five years but have only seen one game as I live interstate.

Membership to me is about saying I am part of my club not just a supporter on the outside looking in (not that there is anything wrong with that). This I signed my kids up as a members too, gotta brainwash them when their are young. Hey it might be against the United Nations rights of the child, but in this case I believe religous brainwashing is justifiable......

Having said that I am an ex-offical so my membership is half price.

Not trying or meaning to criticise you and I understand your situation and reasons for not being a member. I susppose what I'm trying to say is think about being member next year, even though you may not get your moneies worth, as the more members we get the stronger it makes our club both froma marketing point of view and a finacial point of view.

So please mate think about joining up next year, as we'd love to have as a member of the best footy club in Australia
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

That brings a tear to the eye wrinkles, just beautiful...

Although I agree with the sentiment - any membership benefit is merely a bonus for supporting your club. If you are chasing value for money then buy an entertainment book or an API membership.

Any more updates and does anyone know the club-by-club 2005 totals for the purposes of comparison?

Wedgie, thats an incredible turnaround in 5 years ... Do you think the improvement can be attributed solely to improved form, or are there other factors that have contributed to the increase?

Barrie Robran as marketing manager had a lot to do with it, I think it used to be around the 1100 mark in the late 90s even when we were in the finals.

From what I understand, blokes like Barry Robran do a hell of a lot of work in this area. This, along with the increased profile that a boob like Jarman gives the club and the improved results all contribute I would think.

It would be nice to know what Centrals total is now, they wouldn't tell me what ours was but I am guessing that North are well past us now.

I was thinking about whether or not a coach with Jarmans profile would help Centrals and I just cannot picture that working in our environment. North appear to have a more 'happy go luck' atmosphere about their club with all of the professionalism tucked away out the back somewhere (and they must be doing well, given the on and off field turnaround) whereas Centrals seem to have the professionalism showing in all areas. Not sure if that adds value or not, but it came to mind when replying. :D
