In retrospect I was 100% correct. I used to think they were both champions but after today I'll just remember them as whining losers and that truly is a shame.
Sorry Chris and James, you were awesome but you really did go a few years too long.
It's a real shame I'll remember two greats of the SANFL as being so awful but that's just the way I'll remember them forever after today.
No disrespect meant but that's just how it is. :(

English you speak well.

Seriously though, I do love them but I'll always till the day I die remember how undisciplined and how much they lost by today, they really should have given it up a couple of years ago instead of costing some young Dogs players a game. It's a shame.
I'll never remember their fifty thousand premierships, I'll just remember 88 points loss in a big game.
Centrals would have been better off going into the game short of players without them today, such a shame.

The Gowans twins are champions...

If they had done the right thing :-) and played for Sturt, I reckon we'd have a couple of extra flags in the bank account...

Good players, great leaders, sensational motivators of their team...

It will be a long time before we see two equally influential players on the park for an SANFL team...

I don't think they played too long, retiring this year or last year is about on the money, you don't always get to go out on a high, things could have easily been different for them... todays loss has no impact on their reputation, sure they were a bit petulant today, maybe a bit undisciplined, but who cares, it was their last game, they played heaps of other greart games beforehand.

Well done to them both... hopefully they'll join the assistant coaching ranks...

... again, would love to see one of them come to Sturt and bring some of that culture with them.

They both played one season to long.

But hell, wasnt it great to love to hate them, guys like this bring people to the footy

Right to the end today they were the same. Hard, tough, abusive and a tad undisiplined

I always thought they were tossers but was lucky enough a few years ago to have an afternoon at the Sussex hotel having a few beers with them

That day changed my opinion.

well done to both of them on great careers, 17 years straight of playing grand finals, don t think many can say that they have done that.

The SANFL will be the loser with these guys retiring

Whilst a lot of North / West and Norwood supporters booed them off today I stood and clapped because no matter how you thought they played the game they have a remarkable record and deserve the respect from us as football followers.

Wasn't the finish they wanted but 12 GF's in a row and 9 flags says it all but they let themeselves down with their "tactics' today and for one to finish with getting reported for abusing the umpires AFTER the game had finished when you lose by 88 points is just sheer stupidity!
Piss weak SANFL and the CLOWNS who run it.

I lost respect when one of them 'gave up' a North player, causing him to be suspended.
Brett Burton has something in common with 'em...

Should be more of it. Stupid code of silence should be stopped. Another small contribution from the Gowans. (btw punky this is 2012 and no one cares for the likes of the 'North player' except those who want to see dirty players get away it)

The Gowan are Gods of the SANFL. Arguably the best ever. Certainly the most successful.

Since the Gowans came to the CDFC i have completed year 12, got an advanced diploma at uni, been married, been overseas, had two beautiful daughters, won an A Grade cricket premiership as captain, and changed jobs 6 times.

While all that has happened one thing has stayed the same and that is i have had the pleasure of spending my last 12 cold, wet winters watching these two brothers from somewhere in Victoria i cant spell give every last inch of themselves to the CDFC!!!!!!!

They captured the spirit and hearts of the Northern Suburbs and brought the club i have lived, breathed and supported my whole life success like no other club has ever seen. Since the Gowans have come we have gone from being the laughing stock of the league to the envy of all other eight clubs.

Whether people think they went on a year to long or whatever, sometimes in life you earn the right to do things on your own terms. The Gowans have more than earnt that right. Its not often two blokes like these come along and when they do its an amazing experience to witness.

For all their 'mongel', 'thuggery', 'cheating' on field im yet to meet a person who has met them off field have a bad word to say about them. They have helped to raise money and the profile of Novita and i could tell many stories of them given kids one of those 'WOW' factor moments, especially for the son of a close mate.

It is only a game, and to be honest quite a small game in the scale of world importance but in the world of the SANFL, in the streets of the Northern Suburbs the GOWANS you are living LEGENDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CONGRATS ON A TRULY WONDERFUL, SUCCESSFUL, LIFE CHANGING CAREERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The SANFL is a more boring place for your depature.
