As a Glenelg tragic you think I would be happy to see one Glenelg legend replaced by another, right?

Fact is McDermott has no regard whatsoever for the competition that gave him a start, he likens it to "being stale, like West End Draught" as if that in itself is logic enough to argue for major changes like the introduction of AFL reserves into our comp. This, coupled with his irritating tendency to be unsure if he should adopt a serious persona or a jocular one, which therefore often sees him trying and do both. This is one reason why I stopped listening to the 5AA breakfast show on the way to work some years ago. McDermott coupled with Stephen "wow wee!" Rowe will ensure I wont be listening to 5AA on the way home from work either.

Got to hand it to Rowey though, who else could make KG seem like an intelligent, articulate and rational sports commentator?

@ Dutchy one very good reason why the set up is like it is on fiveAA in terms of presenters, they've done their reserach. Over 50% of their audience are Crows fans. 25% if that Port Power and barely 25% other clubs. they pander to their majority audience.

If one club is over catered to for their audience share it is Port Power, that's when I generally turn it over when they have their power player segment on and other Power interviews.

Dont forget the age demographic......
FM radio has the modern stars
The feats of most 5AA presenters were in the SANFL and early years of the Crows so they identify with a certain audience

I presume they know their market and its not SANFL.... its the hype of the AFL

It was embarressing a couple of weeks back when Australia played a critical World Cup qualifier and Cornesy and Rowey were talking about it and neither could name 5 current players in the Socceroos squad

If you profess to be a Sports Show and even if you dont like the other sports you need to at least have a working knowledge of current happenings in them, simply reading every article the sports pages of the Advertiser would give you that.

Bone knows that commentating on AFL is what pays his wages, its sad he gives little regard to his roots. At least he is a cricket tragic and will be able to talk about that with some knowledge in the footy off season.

Football today, or circa 1979?

Cornes distinct lack of tactical understanding of the modern game is almost non-existant next to Rowe's. If Cornes does know more about the game he does a great job of not letting us know about it. His understanding was left behind with Glenelg premierships....way back in the past. :D

When Rowe isn't being the idiot he does talk some sense. Perhaps they are bringing in another idiot so Rowe can be the straight man?

Although I do listen to the sports show on AA. I have always thought cornsey & Rowey knowledge of other sports is very limited.their research is virtually non existant I would have thought AA could have had someone who had more knowledge of a wide range of sports & would have some idea how to research . Now Mcdermott is to replace him I feel the same will continue

I love it when Cornes talked about rugby union.
The game is like a chess match so no wonder it was a bit over his head

AM, that's the problem, they've made it that way by being biased all that time. I would suggest that the South Australian audience would be more 40 Adelaide 30 Port and perhaps 30 non SA based team IF they weren't as biased in their coverage. I can recall many times Cornes saying to listeners that it's a 2 team town and anyone who barracks for non SA based clubs can go and get stuffed (paraphrasing of course).

In essence they're a victim of their own successes. Instead of going down a different path and introducing someone outside of the system, they've gone down a very tired and old path.

But, they wont have to worry about me not counting in their statistics because I wont be turning it onto 1395.

AA have made their bed, they can lay and rot in it IMO.

I have actually turned over to 1395 a couple of times this week, and I am no Rucci fan, but he has made a difference.
I thought it would be one supercilious prix replacing another but he has surprised me
He still is on Saturday mornings though. I hate it when he gets that tone that I know it all and you know nothing, yet he gets many things so wrong

I think Rucci over the last few weeks has suprised quite a few people re his ability to see both sides of a story, general sporting knowledge and tolerance of the listeners and the d#ckhead sitting next to him.
No condescending tone or stupid comments (once again left to the clown beside him).
I don't mind bone to a degree, thank god is wasn't that fence sitting flog wildy.

Agree about the sound effects.
3AW's evening sports show is good, more serious talk about sport and less stupidity. Cornesy has been getting more and more stubborn and arguing pointless topics. He has however given a lot to SA footy and put up a bit of a fight for SA footy and its poor treatment by the AFL.
Those 80's State of Origin games were fantastic.

No matter what you think of the man you have to admire his 20+ years on radio.
Personally not a big fan and stopped listening when Stephen Rowe came on board.
Chris McDermott has some very dangerous opinions which now will get air time sadly.
Everything comes to an end eventually. Farewell Mr. Cornes.
