A fair portion of that is comparing who had the better forward line in the 80's

Beat me to it

crowds and ratings are both up on last year.

You'd hope ratings are up, the sanfl is paying enough for the coverage. Its not as though better ratings have resulted in income from selling the telecast rights.

Membership of the eight constituent clubs is the big indicator for me, anecdotally only one club has shown an increase on last year.

(And they're all probably daschunds anyway ;) )

Yeah no idea on membership, be good to see some stats on that too

I wouldn't even go for membership figures either, as I seem to recall there are different categories each club has which contributes to the total. I don't think free junior or even $10 junior memberships should count either).

Anyway, I would do it purely on the matches containing those eight constituent clubs only comparable to the same amount of matches last year (which does include Port as of course they weren't a Reserves team then):

2014: 3468 (12 matches)
2013: 3574 (first 12 matches of the season which is up to Rd 3). If you made it to the end of Rd 4 it was 3520

So what that shows is that crowds between non reserves teams are about the same, which is good

Will be interesting to see how it pans out but 100 people less a game is still a bit of worry.

If each of them spends $10 at the game that's $1000 a home game over 9 home games against the other proper SANFL team equals 9k loss not including the entry fees etc etc and $10 a person being generous.

Just read that the south v centrals game had 35, 625 viewers rating better "than any afl game on the fox footy channel". Maybe they can get something for the rights (wishful thinking) or at least reduce the cost to the sanfl.

Could this be a record long thread on safooty.net for a H&A game? Great to see so much interest in the game, can't wait to watch it.

I'd go back through all the threads and find out if I was you. You obviously think the post count means something, irrespective if most of the posts have nothing at all to do with actual game.
But hey, search away.

Incidentally, as a Port fan, how many posts have you contributed on this thread that is about the game? Just asking
