Have said previously a king-hit is not the way to go, but sometimes stuff comes your way. Disappointed he chose that way to go but he did. Puts him only about 5,000 credits up in the SANFL, I reckon.

No. I haven't really seen the tape. Didn't Schubert hit him in the ribs behind play to which J Gowans followed after him and hit him in the face behind play? Hardly an even square up and uncalled for. Can not possibly defend his actions here (unless they use the Austin Powers hypnotization theory)...

Here, have a piece of gum... ;)

still its poor form to do it from behind, the best form of squaring up is legally in play not below the belt like this

At the risk of sounding like Wedgie, thanks for agreeing with me.

can I insert* a big IF he was squaring up

Have been great players the Gowans boys for Centrals over the years, but always susceptible to losing the plot (read: white line fever). Tarnished a great day for the Dogs. Centrals supporters can defend the snipe all you like (the brothers are past masters of it) but it won't stop one of your premier midfielders missing at least a third of the 2008 season (if they play on). So now tell me, was it really worth it???

Your spot on Smac. So why not just bite. Sling tackle the goose to the ground, rub his face into the turf, and follow him around for the rest of the game and remind him of the score until the final siren sounds. That's what I would do anyway. Or.........you do what that penut Gowans did. Says alot about the character of the moron IMHO.

Fair enough. I guess on this season's performance, his absence may not make much difference anyway.

I am a passionate Doggies member

no matter what way you look at it a KING hit is a KING hit

Squaring up, is no defence to King hit someone from behind the play

I am a huge fan of the Gowan brothers, and what they have done for the CDFC, however, I am sure this is a brain explosion that James will already regret

I would of rather of seen James stand toe to toe with schubert and put on on his chin, unfortunately he chose to King hit Schubert from behind.

This incident does not change my opinion of James as a footballer or my appreciation for what he has done for the CDFC, however, James’s actions will have consequences, he will obviously get some matches, but most importantly, he will now need to deal with the fact most people will now remember him for this incident and brand him in a certain manner

Dutchy, I also saw no action from Schubert (watching on television). Apparently the commentators on 5AA did though as they said it was a retaliatory action. I was first wondering if it was mistaken identity and it should have been aimed at Howard (number 24) not Schubert (number 29). Howard stomped on Chris Gowans' face earlier in the match.

What is disappointing is the incident in the last minute has detracted tonight from a suburb effort by Centrals today and indeed this year.

Today was a clinic and from about halfway though the 2nd qtr (after the Allen miss and then Callinan goal) the writing was on the wall as far as the result went....

Centrals have once again raised the bar on what is required to be the premier team in the SANFL. I hope some of our twos boys lingered to watch what is required next year for us to last an extra two weeks in the League season.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Unfortunately it doesn't take much for a Gowans to bite. Quite often the smallest thing done (often in accident) to one brother is enough to make the other see red. Not that Schubert did a small thing (whatever it was) but a square up from a Gowans is usually ten fold.

Haven't managed to read all of this thread.

So will hop in and say.

Well done Dogs.
Congrats to the Roosters for getting there. Great to see a little bit, albeit a loss, of success for a club which was on the brink not long ago.

All I can do is smile at the great things our club has achieved in the past decade. It's beautiful!

Congratulations to Central on a great win, and real congratulations to North for turning things around so much from where they were at the end of 2003. Jarman has certainly been a contributing factor to invigorating the club and there is plenty to build on for next year.

Very passionate crowd, little surprised the figure wasn't higher. Fantastic atmosphere throughout, and the passion displayed by the fans reminded me why the SANFL is still such an outstanding competition.

Selection decisions didn't make a big difference in the outcome in the end - not with that result. I've said it a few times, but I reckon it will be a long, long time before one club makes eight consecutive grand finals again.

Could have been a few players for the Jack Oatey, FWIW, thought Schell was superb in the second half after a very solid first half. No coincidence that many of the key indicators swung Central's way in the second half, although North were only just shaded on centre breaks in that time. Marks inside attacking 50 told a big story after half time, though.

Smac - I always like your constructive posts but you are lowering yourself trying to defend Gowans king hit. If Gowans was supposedly so upset with "some earlier incident" why didn't it flare up then and he react at the time? Yo know why - because there was not any incident that warranted any square up by the fact Gowans didn't take Schubert to task then. It was just a plain gutless king hit and if it happened off the field and without the protection of the rules of the game then he would be up for assault.

Do yourself a favour sober up and watch the tape - it is shown from a couple of angles and it is ugly. The only saving grace is that Schubert only got a cut eye but I wonder if the potential injury he could have got had occured, e.g. knocked out, broken jaw etc then there would be real serious fallout.

That hit spoilt a perfect day for Centrals but even loyal fans like you can't even concede on this one - you have to have everything include some half baked square up excuse for an act of cowardice. Still if your proud for what Gownas did then so be it. I wouldn't be suprised with some of the arrogant defending comments on this incident that some of you lot don't get a commerative t-shirt made up to celebrate the ugly incident?
