Given the only way SANFL clubs can prosper is by being entrenched in their communities I can see limited short term benefits in ground sharing but also hideous long term consequences.

Moving will not help West but it might help Sturt.
West have a night venue and a good oval surface, Sturt have neither. Maybe Sturt should play football in the clubrooms they are always going on about..... the same ones they can not afford to buy.

Not a bad call, Sturt at Richmond. It's not too far from their natural home.
It'd hurt them, but not as much as playing at Unley is right now.
You're my only friend, and you don't even like me.

My bro just received his Westies membership in the mail after ordering it a couple of months ago, went to the club today to buy a couple of shirts but was told the merchandise for this year still hasnt arrived, not sure if other clubs are run the same but season is due to start in a couple of weeks and with this club struggling financially i would think every little bit of money would help.

Say West ordered, at a guess, $5,000 worth of shirts. Alot, I know.... ;)

As a supplier, would you be prepared to put a 30 day invoice for $5,000 to the WAFC knowing the position they are in?

Not me.

Bump

An article on the improving crowds at Richmond, up 27% this year.

http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/west-adel ... 6657596621

Part of an email from Kym Russell from last week

Some of our KPI’s include:

Partnership and sponsorship income is on budget and is 5% greater than last year. In addition to our 59 existing partners who have renewed for 2013 and beyond we welcome 13 new partners.

Our membership target for the year is 2000 financial members. As at 30th April we had 1,570 which is13% up on the same time last year.

Home match attendances are 27.5% up on last year resulting in improved gate takings and ground catering revenue.

We have reduced our ATO debt by over $225,000 with the sale of 5 GME’s and our bank debt by $30,000. In addition we have been able to refurbish our gaming room which has resulted in the gaming room now performing better than when we had 40 machines.

One of our key strategies to ensure the Club was sustainable in the long term was the relocation of our gaming room to a major arterial road. This has been slowed down as the support we were seeking from the State Government appears to have disappeared with their recently introduced gaming legislation changes.

Not only does the legislation not assist us in moving to a major arterial road (unless we move all our sporting facilities as well), the new changes will make it harder for us to compete against the Casino and pubs. The gaming sector is split into major and minor gaming venues which have vastly different cost and compliance requirements.

Unfortunately this legislation has passed the lower house of Parliament and we now have only a couple of weeks to lobby the upper house members to not support the legislation.

I wonder if a move to Thebarton Oval would ever be on the cards with regards to the issue of pokies and major arterial roads etc. It is of course now West Adelaide's zone.

Anyway, good to see things picking up at Westies.

$225k ATO debt

no wonder the doors were nearly closed...so while they have paid this back all they ensures that they can keep trading, disappointing they have only put a small dent in the bank debt.

And you can only hope they get no salary cap fines this year

Has the CEO's contract been extended? Cant believe he survived.

Think you will find all clubs would have big tax bills. Paying way under the cap this year I believe so no fines this year ;)

Focus on the negatives, none of the positives ;)

If West are getting their finances sorted thats another club that have no real reason to want the AFL clubs in the SANFL league comp.
