I still don't think Sturt are that good but I am glad for Rick and the Sturt faithful as to how they're going.
Ive only seen Sturt once this year and North beat them easily but looking at their other results this year they may have just had a bad day.
Or maybe I put Rick off his game when I wished him good luck and made him smile when I said we'd rather have him as coach than Jars!

A poor 1st half from the Blues was all it was. See you Unley in a few weeks 8)

Sturt played 15 minutes of good football that day in the 3rd quarter when North went to sleep. In my book that makes it more than a poor first half?

Still you can't knock the obvious improvement in their from compared to last year. Same goes for Norwood. All good for the comp.

im stoked we beat the dogs and now i know that we are going to expect to win more than we lose from now on, but i want the scalps of north, legs and the eags, not just a few big scalps, i want them all :D knowing we can beat these teams will make me more confident.

Yeh, I think so too Jimmy. Just like our opening three games of the year, these past three weeks have seen us win 2 matches where we stood a chance and then caused a huge upset against all the odds. A hangover after this big win will see us go down against the Magpies, as we are a side that seeks success through out-fighting the opposition, we relax on that application and we get overrun. Until we beat North, Norwood and the Eagles and consistently beat the sides out of the 5, then I think we are just a side capable of playing out of their skins and pulling the occassional huge upset out of the hat. An interesting stat to back up what I am saying is that we have won twice as many games than we have lost and still have a percentage under 50!

im abit the same, they have been excellent so far, just a massive question of if they can keep it up for the 2nd half of the year.

Looks more and more like it given North's capitulation today.

Didn't think you were the fishing type Wedgie?

Honest efforts will bring the results is what I say. Sure, we don't have the best list in the SANFL, but what we lack in super stars we certainly make up for with blokes who will run through brick walls for the coach and the jumper.

Saturday was no fluke.

Get used to seeing some more performances/results like it.

Bring on the Magpies.

I am not placing the post below to blow my own bags, more to suggest that Sturt should command a lot more respect than what they are perhaps receiving.......

Both Wedgies post and my response were posted just after Sturt beat the Bays at Unley in round two;

Re: Well done Sturt and Rick Macgowan
Wedgie wrote:
Rick has left a trail throughout the SANFL of respect as I've never met one person at any club who has a bad word to say about him.
I was hoping he'd do well in his first role as senior coach role and always said I wouldn't be suprised if he somehowe go them up for a better result this year than last but even then I expected Sturt to go zero and two.
For him to get that list which IMHO is very ordinary compared to most others to 2 and zip just shows the sort of credibility this guy has.
Well done Rick and well done Sturt for having the nouse to choose him as senior coach.
Clubs like Glenelg and West really do need to take a page out of Sturt's books, they've got better resources but still can't choose coaches as well as Sturt does.

Your sentiments are appreciated Wedgie and I certainly concur with what you say regarding Rick, he is super impressive.

I do take issue with what you said regarding our list. I am getting a little tired of people suggesting our list is 'very ordinary' and other such statements.

Granted we can't, with present financial constraints, recruit big name (ex AFL) recruits like North and other financial heavyweights. What we have done is picked up some quality youngsters from country footy, other regional leagues and SANFL clubs. The likes of Ryan Darling (Blythe/Snowtown) who was best on ground yesterday, Luke Crane (QAFL) a three time best and fairest at his club Zillmere and Tristian Gum (a player you will be very familiar with) represent some very smart recruiting. If you team these quality guys with the top liners in our side, coupled with terrific youngsters and the fitness, discipline and passion the Sturt side is showing, you are going to get a very competitive unit.

We have the best full forward in the competition, quality midfielders such as Sheedy, Nelson and Whiteman and a really solid group of guys who will play a lot of games for the SFC.

As I have said previously, I know we are not going to win a flag for a couple of years but I am confident we will win our fair share of games this year, I always was and had to laugh when I heard pre-season predictions of a winless season etc.

Yes, congratulations to Rick and the boys. They will not get carried away with a couple of early wins against midddle of the road opposition but they are hell bent making sure the SANFL public stand up, take notice and give this club some respect.

Respect they deserve.

Things are certainly going better than expected and I guess most thought the wheels were going to fall off once we slipped to 3-3 after our 3-0 start.
Was able to see the game against South at Noarlunga and I thought we were very good even though South wasn't.
Must have been a good day for the Double Blues on Saturday and hopefully we can keep it going for the rest of the season.
Will be interesting to see if the gas man can notch up 100 goals for the year. Even though he's well and truly on pace, it will still take a fair effort to actually reach the milestone.

after watching them today v port, you'd have to say yes they are the real deal, they had the challenge of not having a 'let-down' after beating central plus had to come back from a 20 point deficit early & then hold onto a lead that was hard fought for most of the day
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway
