AFL Reserves Discussion...

Hey guys just checked out the Perth Now site and checked out the match reports in the WAFL to see what the crowd numbers are can someone tell meis policy over there not do a head count of people attending games crowd numbers for all games are shown as 1500 approx or 1200 approx some were about 2000 or about 1900 or about 1500 looks like that comp is on its last legs will the same happen next year when the AFL RESERVES are dumped in our comp will the SANFL also report our crowd numbers as approx and about in 2014 ????????

I think Sturt are one side that would benefit if taken over by the Crows. I can't see the club surviving with the current administration.

I know a lot of supporters will jump down my throat about my views of how the club has been run, but in 20+ years as a member I can't believe how little the supporter base cares, when the board tells the membership it hid financial details from them and everyone says no problem, what hope is there?

Being taken over is the one thing that I see that would save the club from closing its doors. So for Sturt, I think that model is a good idea.

That said, I expect them to vote for whatever model is put in front of them though, Sturt will vote for money.

I'd prefer my club die than be taken over by the Crows. Much more dignified. Would be horrified to see North become the reserves side of that franchise.

If it were, you might think differently. I'd like to see Sturt survive and thrive, Sturt can't make the Crows come in on their own, but if they are coming in, get in and benefit from it I say, don't let pride kill the club.

Hey, I had a lot of fun being a Woodville supporter in my youth in the cheer squad.

Every win was like a premiership, great to get a few of those a year....


At the Eagles during 2000-06 it was a lot less fun knowing we were good but just not good enough to win the flag. ... until 2006 that is.

[They are simple proposing a reserves side in the SANFL.No junior development, no connection with amatuer clubs. They dont have a club, they aren't a club. They are a franchise, always have and always will be.

And as Aerie has noted, the Adelaide proposal is much more of an insult than Ports. We want to keep an SANFL presence, we want to remain involved with the community we have been a part of for 140 years, we want to continue to play for SANFL premierships, we want to have kids from Rosewater play in a Magpie guernsey. Whether that kid only gets to play U18's, reserves or league is open to debate, but it gives the Magpies no greater advantage than any other SANFL club doing the same and it gives the Power no greater advantage on the national stage at the draft, to try and recruit this kid.

We get criticised for having the ambition to enter and play in the AFL and we get criticised for wanting to maintain our connection with what has always been Port Adelaide.

Booney its the whole "One Club" fiasco and subsequent breaking of promises again which spells the death knell of a great club. As you have indicated, you will now just become another franchise.

All i am saying is that your club would become just like this. A corpse for the Crows to parade around publicly for their own amusement and benefit. I would prefer my club to die than see it humiliated in such a way. That said, should the Crows and Port get reserves sides in the SANFL league comp my club will be equally humiliated by being involved anyway.

Sorry to be anal but from a traffic engineering perspective the Southern Expressway did a brilliant job for minimal dollars. Furthermore, the planning and design that went into it at the time enabled a relatively pain free duplication.

Not sure about that, every bridge accross the expressway needs to be rebuilt (at considerable traffic inconvenience) because the initial bridges only covered the one way road being built.

Was folding an option when you were winning all those wooden spoons... ?
In my mind if Sturt fold then the rest might as well pack up also; all 8 SANFL clubs need to be strong together because we all need to preserve this historic comp as it's the tradition which separates us from the prostitute AFL teams with their media spin doctors.
My view is that the lack of growth in $ and crowds/ members is the fear factor that's pushing our club leaders into a wrong decision to get into bed with two clubs that are sly as snakes
