Sad news indeed for Eagles fans with Kenny parting ways...

Always liked the way he played, was just just an honest, committed footballer who had some good talent...

Good luck with life after footy Kenny. Heard he will have the odd kick with his brother at Henley...

Also, I know this is off topic, but when Ian Callinan was mentioned a few posts earlier, it reminded me of something...

Many would know that Callinan was almost signed by the Eagles, decided Central in the end but I found out something interesting about Matthew Slade.

The recently retired multi-premiership players for the Dogs spoke at the CDFC B&F and spoke about how he and a local Gawler lad named Kym Herrman (eneded playing a few reserves games for Central) were invited out to a pre-season training session with WWT in the very late 90's.

Sladey was happy just playing locally with his mates but decided to finally give league footy a crack. The day he and Kym were supposed to go to his first training session at the Eagles, it was 40 degrees and they decided to pull the pin.

He played another year with Gawler Central then the following year, he went out to Central District pre-season training and the rest is history !!

So rumored ins include Parry, Lewis, Guilhaus, Schwarze. Skipworth looking unlikely? Jay Schulz also an in if he doesn't get selected for the Power.

Confirmed outs are Passador, McGregor, Hier and Westbrook. Would also expect to not see much (if any) of Broadbent and Salter who played mainly for us in '09.

Wouldn't be too far away from pre-season starting?

The Eagles would not have Schwarze back, he is an undesirable person.
Training starts Monday most probably at Thebarton.
I feel that both Salter and Schulz won't be in the Power side at the same time.

With Parry and Gilhaus ( and also young Robson) rumoured to be coming to the Eagles what will Dabrowski's situation be, is there something we don't know?

Might see Dabrowsky playing a role as CHB, FB or back pocket on the talls. Was beginning to get jumped over in the ruck consistently last season. Question whether Parry is the right sort to have around the club - expect Jarrad Redden to be the big improver this year without making it to the AFL). Skipworth has his thoughts elsewhere with his possible non-playing career and we .shouldn't expect much from him even if he does play

The Woodville West Torrens Football Club is delighted to announce to its Members the signing of the following players;

Craig Parry – 3 years

Recruited to the SANFL from WAFL Club Subiaco in 2003, Craig has been widely regarded as one of the leading ruckmen in the SANFL competition, representing South Australia on 3 occassions during his 114 games with Port and South Adelaide.

Aaron Day – 3 years

Originally from Glenelg, Aaron Day was captain of the Glenelg Reserves premiership team which beat the Eagles in the 2009 Grand Final. At 190cm, Aaron is a key position player who has the ability to play at both ends of the ground.

Seb Guilhaus – 1 year

Seb spent the 2009 season with Morphettville Park in the Southern Football League, winning the Mail Medal for this competition. Standing at 198cm, Seb is a genuine ruckman who has played League Football previously with Glenelg.

The WWTFC believes that it has secured three quality key position players who can help take the Club forward in 2010 and beyond. I am sure that you will join me in welcoming these three men to the Club and look forward to seeing them in action at the start of the season.

IMHO at times when young Redden played he was getting his hand to the ball much more often than Dober .the last game at unley being a prime example .But the ball was not getting to our mid-fielders. In frustration I asked the Power guy watching him to get the ruck coach at alberton to introduce the odd thumping the ball to CHF didnt happen of course.

17 pages. Looks like ten pages to me. ;)

Good signings they are; now we just need another quality midfielder.

Dabrowski was still great value last year. He had to shoulder most of the ruck himself. Will be glad to have quality support in Parry. Perhaps Miles can become a Full Back full time.

Redden has potential but needs to harden up and quickly. I'd think him and Guilhaus would have to impress in reserves before being considered for league.

For the record I wouldn't want to see Schwarze back at the Eagles.

Things are looking up for the Eagles in 2010 with the signings of these 3 players. How many more will cross over from the bay.

I remain unconvinced. Only Parry is a proven player and we carries a lot of baggage with him to the club. Hope the coach is strong enough to discipline him if he starts playing up again.

The other two players are a reserves player from another club and an amateur league player. How many of these types have we signed in the last few years without one being any good?

The jury must still be out on our recruiting until we gain the services of 2 quality midfielders

Of the 3 signing announced only Parry would be in your Best 21. Guilhaus unless he went to kicking school last year will be your 4th Ruckman and Day was a very good Reserves player but never seriously put the consistent smash the League Door Down performances.

Good luck to both though I hope they prove me wrong just not against the Bays.

From what I hear, the coaching staff are pretty comfortable with the on ball brigade that we have.... Lets not forget that the Club did not have the services of Treeby or Powell for most of the year last year..... There is a difference between these guys and what we have had previously. Day is a proven Reserves player, not speculative, starved of opportunity at the Bays due to their depth in key position players. And, Guilhaus has played League football at Glenelg but was behind one of the top two ruckmen in the comp and a couple of other proven League performers. Most of all, both were obviously coached by Godden so I'd like to think that he knows their capabilities from close up - not from afar.

By the way, the club fought off Centrals for Day's services.

In what order would you rate our crop of young rovers for the upcoming season. My thoughts are Banner (1) assuming continued improvement with another AFL pre-season, Fairclough (2) hasn't progressed much since his debut at 16years and a low possession winner, Goldsworthy (3) shows some class at times, Lane (4) good goal sense but, at present, ? lacks the gut running and pace for consistent league football, Rowntree (5) couldn't translate some big Reserves performances into league quality performances. Petrenko appears to have no sidestep for a good rover, rather he's a straight running Johncock type and Jacky's defensive skills were non-existent last year to be considered as an onballer. So with all these young U20 years rovers, some will be looking to move on if we manage to secure a good quick rover. At this stage we're going to be again relying on our slower (but very capable) midfielders McKenzie, Powell,Treeby, Cicollela, Rimington around the ball. Geez, one classy, quick onballer (dare I say, two) would set us up nicely. But how's the $$$$$ and salary cap going?
