I spoke to the twins a couple of weeks ago for an interview on LifeFM...

They said the phone has been ringing hot, including an offer of $1500 per game each from a local SAAFL club...

They said they will NOT be playing footy next year, they want to give their bodies a break...

Both lads recently got married so want to spend some time travelling with their wives and then maybe head up to the hill at Elizabeth and enjoy a beer and steak sandwich as spectators...

They hinted at maybe getting involved in coaching thr year after but not sure yet. If the SANFL adopt the 2 runners like the AFL do, I could imagine them in that role perfectly !!!

And a Glenelg player has never ever mouthed off at an umpire I guess. This is an appreciation thread if you don't appreciate them then don't post.

There is no doubt that they have been undisciplined at times. I would much rather have that passion in my team than not because the positives far out way the negatives.

True, nobody likes watching disgraceful umpiring performances.

Cost you the game eh?

No, never said that. Easy to read, "nobody likes watching a disgraceful umpiring performance".

Let me know when it happens.

Probably not the best thing to be doing after a flogging but ffs umpire just turn a deaf ear and walk off. What is the point of reporting the player ? Be a man and just laugh it off and nothing would have happened, no one would be the wiser.

Someone has lost their sense of humour. Settle down champ, someone was asking if it was black and white, I posted it to demonstrate that it isn't. I actually doubt very much that anything I do on this forum is connected to my club's on-field performance.

Same umpire who was criticising AFL umpires on twitter, just the night before. He's obviously confused!

I applauded both twins off the ground yesterday, I know I would have liked to see them play for Westies for the last 12 or so years. And what is up with that umpire reporting one of them for abuse after the siren!! get a life go and umpire netball!

Good point Dutchy however everyone knows the Gowans boys wear their hearts on their sleeves and they tell it how it really is when it comes to umpiring.

they can then deal with the consequences of their actions.

or the twins could just exit gracefully, and keep their opinions to themselves.
If they are that precious, maybe Netball is for them.

Cheers, I'm not in the loop anymore but that sounds like some serious money just to play amateurs. I remember absolute gun players being paid around $500 a game but $1500 geez, I'd be striking while the iron is hot because I seriously doubt offers like that would be there the following year.

Things have changed over the years and every player and coach knows that they can't abuse an umpire anymore ... rightly or wrongly that's just the way is is now.

There shouldn't be a different rule just because you're a Gowans or are at the end of your career.

No no no Dedja i am not saying their should be a different set of rules for the Gowans all i am saying that some of these thin skinned prima donna's in white should toughen up and take some criticism just like the good old days when there was some very fine repartee between players and umpires thats the trouble today in this new era of enlightenment there is too much political correctness in all walks of life and there is no accountability if anyone stuffs up gee Gowans tells Avon the truth and he gets reported wow big deal he has retired and will not be playing anymore so whats the the use of a report ???? Avon really should of used some common sense and repartee and said bye bye Jimmyall the best to you will not be here next week but i will lol.

Perhaps after 12 years of copping it from the boys the umpries, one individual anyway, figured enough was enough.

Who knows what the content of the comments were anyway. Might not just have been "You're blind etc etc"

Maybe you should start another thread on the topic. Unless you want this one to degenerate rapidly.
Umpires get criticized and sometimes downright abused by the crowd, players forums etc. To assume that there is no line that is eventually crossed or that an umpire shouldn't report a player in such a situation is to be expecting too much.
