Can not believe for the life of me the negativity on this forum.

Firstly, it has not been offically announced...

I think getting Jack back is an exciting step for the SANFL. He is a strong character who does not take s**t. If players dont want him there then p**s them off!!! We dont want 99% or half assed effort , we need to demand 100%. Jack is the man for this.

His knowledge of the game is outstanding and South can learn alot from it.

He is funny when it is required and serious too. If I was a player i would give the man total respect and committment.

I know alot of you will "Bag" the man but I bet you you will be the ones standing in the hundles listening and going to games in interest to see how South go. (might bring in the bigger crowds too!)

Time will tell but personally I am very excited about it all.

I was a bit suspicious when I saw this sign outside Arctic Park earlier today:

If Cahill gets the gig there are a few things he needs to do for a start.
Tip the place upside down, throw out all the pondscum that undermined the previous coach, chuck out anyone who doesnt give 110%, challenge and demand success from the playing group......

...good luck Jack.

I for one won't be jumping on the "Jack's Back" bandwagon. I think that if the appointment is factual the appointment is a band-aid measure only and as a club we are in deep doodoo.

This would have been an ideal opportunity to appoint a well credentialed, energetic, younger and therefore long term coach with both short term and long term goals. Without seeing the list of applicants to see who actually applied (I very much doubt that list will be leaked. Who's hidden agenda would it benefit?), I find it hard to believe that Jack is the best option.

Having made it clear that he is not my first, second or third choice, if he is actually appointed, I'll toe the company line, pay my membership and go to games as I do every year. I'll support the club coaches, players, staff and pokies no holds barred as I have every season for the last 44 years. I won't be bailing up board members about coaches and players, or telling players to complain to the board about not getting selected. I'll just back my club and abuse Messrs. Williams and Dodderidge about perceived inconcistancies.

I might even buy shares in SAFC Pty Ltd.

Exactly. They are the first players who should be shown the door. There is a reason South have been so bad for so long.

As much as it will hurt to see Jack at another club, it is a good appointment.

He won't. He's way too comfortable and has nothing to prove. He's not going to throw his weight around and sh*t in his own nest when it's paying him so well. Couple of trips up the expressway each week, pipe and slippers the rest of the week. Nice work if you can get it ;)

From Adelaide Now,

ZAC MILBANK
September 20, 2007 02:15am
SOUTH Adelaide's players will be informed tonight that John Cahill will coach them for the next two seasons.

Port Adelaide legend Cahill, who coached the Magpies to 10 SANFL premierships and guided the Power in its first two seasons, has accepted a two-year deal with the Panthers.

After spending the past two seasons out of the game - Cahill last coached the Magpies for a season in 2005 - the experienced campaigner will act in a mentor-style role at Noarlunga.

South chairman Dominic Rinaldi, without revealing the chosen candidate, confirmed the Panthers' board endorsed the selection committee's decision on Tuesday night.

Cahill will be officially unveiled by the club once players are advised of his appointment at Noarlunga this evening. "We want to pay courtesy to the players and let them know," Rinaldi said.

North Adelaide coach Andrew Jarman, who coached against Cahill two seasons ago, applauded the decision. "Any team with Jack at the helm will be one to be feared," Jarman said. "I think it is a great thing for SANFL footy."

Everyone knows the ideal players' coach lets them stay out as late as they like, and provides the keg for Friday night training. Yes, the players who want that have to go!

At least with parking around the ground at Polar Park poor old Jack won't have to get out of his access cab to coach. Just back it in and open the tailgate!

Personally think that it's fantastic for the competition and am of the opinion that Cahill will be willing to shake things up because I'm sure that he's aware of the situation down there and is probably aware of what happened with Pyman so why would he bother if he was just going to go through the motions.
Hopefully he can turn things around for them and get them in the finals if not next year then in 2009.
