Grahaml wrote:Alan Obst could do that third tall job as well, Mal. A forward line of Havelberg, Lawry and Obst with crumbers around should kick plenty of goals. Wouldn't have thought Schell would move back forward permanently. Rumour mill was that he was about to give away the game until a new challenge (that didn't involve being beaten up every game!) was set for him. Now that he's starting to get the hang of the position I can't see them reverting back to Schell at FF.

I agree. I rate Schell as just about the best CHB we have ever had - although Duckworth was pretty good in this position too - and Haraida. I would rather leave Schell there as he is obviously enjoying his footy again plus I think this is the most important position on the field. Win CHB and you not only starve the opposition of an easy avenue to goal but you get great rebound if you have a player like Schell or takes possession and finds a player rather vthan just go the punch.

We haev a number of forward options already and who knows what are recruiters are looking at!

Schell had a good season at CHB and is a star full forward.
But I think Johnny DUCKWORTH is a better footballer

Probably but my team would have Schell at CHB and Duckworth at CHF 8)

Me thinks Geelong are well aware of Ad's and already have him under the microscope ... along with a few other clubs I might add.

Ad's had a poor attitude to footy last year and when he left I thought there goes another wasted talent. But I take my hat off and full credit to the kid because when he turned up again this year (well from Nov last year to be exact) he was a totally different person. Worked damn hard to redime himself and earn back some respect he lost last year. He took his footy to a whole new level and reaped in the rewards for his efforts since pre season. This kid can PLAY !!!!!

I reckon Geelong got a bargain with Varcoe. Was touted as top 5 pick for a while, but sat out much of the season before with a foot injury. Geelong got him at 14 or something in the end. I remember at the draft getting very excited because the crows had pick 15 or 16 and both Hurn and Varcoe were available only a few picks before. Ended up both getting selected in succession just before the crows pick.

Yep, we got him with pick no 15 in the 2005 draft, the Crows picked up Douglas and Pfeiffer with pics 16 and 17.
Other players to before him included Marc Murphy, Beau Dowler, Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls, Marcus Drum, Shaun Higgins and Grant Birchall.

What will be brilliant is if Callinan is drafted by either the Crows or the Power, i wouldn't expect him to crack it at AFL level straight away therefore the Dogs will see a fair bit of him.
This would free up a fair bit of salary cap enaballing us to recruit someone to the same value as him, and have 2 quality players. :D

I think that you will find that we will not do much recruiting over summer. I think this has already been mentioned by the heirarchy. With Dew and Faulkner likely to return and Cowan to return from injury we pretty much have the squad we want. Will Steiny have one more try and will Sansbury be delisted? These two would add to the strength sufficiently.

I hope we have done our usual high quality recruiting. We need to have back-up players to cover for anyone who gets picked up in the draft and I wouldn't count the players returning as definites until they are signed.

have heard a rumour that Paul Scoullar may be heading back this way next year. May be a little long in the tooth now but may be a handy back up to Buckets and Giles(dont expect to see much of Griffen next season)

I recently watched some vision of Paul Scoullar playing for Country Vic from earlier this year. Still looked okay, although...at times he was beaten by his SA opponent. SA did win handsomely on the day though...

I think u will find Scoullar is well past it.
Saw two young ruckman jump all over him at the State Country game against the Vics earlier this year so hes certainly not the player he once was. Was a very good ruckman a few years ago.
Centrals are an amazing unit. Other teams should attempt to play the same game style they do as its simple and obviously very effective!!
