I became a North supporter because I liked to be different, have a mind of my own and like to do it hard.
Both of my parents followed Norwood, my old man played for Torrens, my step dad barracked for Torrens and I never lived North of town in my life.
I can still remember our Year 2 teacher bribing every single mindless kid in the class with Bays stickers so they'd barrack for the Bays, worked on everyone but me.
North weren't very successful when I started following them, this was part of the reason as I didn't want to follow a team like the perennial finalists in Port, Sturt, Norwood or the Bays like everyone at my schools did.
Stephen Kerley and Mick Nunan heading to Prossie was the clincher.

Yeah, like so many others, I remember that game too. Reakon not too many sides in Australia would have beaten THAT team on THAT day.

But even given that great moment, still my favourite memory is the day we played Torrens in our centenary match and beat them by (nearly)100 points.

That day holds special memories (and I was on the ground that day)

Pretty hard to beat that record, blacky.

You're definitely not a front-runner!

Grew up around the corner from Woodville Oval, so the Peckers it was. Watched them train, practised checksides from the boundary on Sunday mornings, basically a second home. Now it's the Eagles for obvious reasons.

Have been a Southie since I was a wet dream. Born and bred in St Marys,1 street from the ill-fated Panther Park. Used to go and kick back the footies while the league side were having goal kicking practice. Players such as Darley and Backman were around in those days. Saw a pre-season match between Carlton and South at the ground during a pre-season, I think it may have been the opening of the ground.Nicholls,Jones,Walls they were all there.

Basically I was born in the West Torrens area (Well actually the hospital was QEH, but for the first year and a half of my life I lived in West Hindmarsh). Can't remember anything pre-1991 though, the only memento I have is a mini West Torrens outfit.

Was Hardcore Glenelg when i was little, then 1/2 Central and Norwood(beat that!!!) till about 85, somehow got to North because mt yr 6 teacher(Peter Clayfield, ever play for thr Roosters) sugessted i should go red and white one day(after he saw one of those fake newspapers kids did for a project back then and it had a score of the Dogs knocking North off in the sport section, he said "Shouldn't that be the other way?") Had a South Jumper for a couple yrs too, picked it out from West Lake K mart, my sister got me a Rooster jumper in early 86, that tipped me over the edge for good thank god!!!

mate...tell me about it..my earliest sturt memory was 88 in a win over torrens at thebby...after that year it was all tears...i thought it was just the norm sturt being on the bottom...it felt weird winning on a regular basis after 97....what id give to see sturt matches LIVE in the 60's and 70's!!!!

Christ, you've had more clubs than even the most transient players.
I still can't understand someone starting life following one club, then switching later.
Both of my younger brothers did it in the 70's when North weren't winning too much, one went to Norwood, and the other to Sturt. (they both should have been struck from the old mans will immediately)

Both my Grandfathers worked on ketches in the Port, growing up in the days when a fight was easier to get hold of than a beer in the pubs around the Port.(No wise cracks about it being the same today thanks).

My old man grew up catching rabbits as his first job, on what is now known as West Lakes.

My Mum missed about 3 games from 1950 until 1975,and not many more since.

No harm in having no choice!

Had a cousin play for them in the 70s, then started watching "The Big Replay" on GTS/BKN on the peninsula, watched my cousin, loved the colours and then saw this bloke in the #12 Guernsey , standing on heads, kicking goals and basically dominating the comp.

From then on I've been, hooked, loved every minute of the ride.....

Even now I love going to the Bay Oval and standing on it, closing my eyes and reminiscing, the past past champions just spring in to your mind!!!!
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

My school was in the Sturt zone so I promptly barracked for the Redlegs...well, you know how tiresome those Strut supporters can be!
