West likely to pass on Walker and take Otten instead by the sounds of some word around the traps - dash61 is fairly close to the mark with his list.

Think thats the 64 dollar question, I have asked alot about this and never been given a decisive answer, IMHO I believe you could say No to participating, especially with this lad who has no intention to coming to Adelaide next year

He will be playing some reserves during the school hilidays and who knows may even get a league match

At westies my top 3
1 Ottens
2 Moran
3 Walker

So dash will make 2 predictions, west will take moran at nos 1 and norths will take dangerfield at number 8 unless there is a ruckman as "loobe" still avail

As Ive previously mentioned, why would North let every other side have 1 pick and 3 clubs have 2 picks in the draft yet take a player who's not going to be here for 12 months.
Where is the value in that thinking ?

Only thing I could think of would be to have less disruption/reliance on AFL players.
Mind you I think if there's a KPP or ruckman left they'll jump at the player.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Broken Hill part of Norwoods country zone years ago? Didn't they get a Ruckman from there in the early 90s and there was a bit of hoo hah about him challenging the draft??

If Broken Hill is/was part of Norwoods zone I'm surprised they didn't get Walker down for a few games to claim him outside of the teh mini-draft as we did with Logan.

CP, NFC, topsy, Fester can you enlighten me?

Yes, thanks for that Tas but Im very aware that Glenelg weren't as successful as North in 07 as werent 6 other clubs giving us a low pick.

Does anyone know if Norwood take 2 more what will be their no of Port and Crows players then? I remember they had a ridiculuos amount of reliance on AFL players in 07 (quantity wise).

Well some clubs need/want onballers so they'll grab them e.g. South having lost a few this year we like you need to top up our big bloke dept....

Norwood have lost Meeson and Pfieffer so I guess with 2 inclusions it will be the same figure in 2008.
That leaves:
Campbell, Massie, Bassett, Jericho, Rodan, Thomas, Cockshell, Lower, Minson, +2 in the mini-draft.

Stuey Bown is a Broken Hill boy ... Think we actually grabbed Dean Solomon many moons ago aswell (only played to u/15 level with us), so it very possibly is one of our regions.

The club were well aware of Taylor, but I believe he was also well aware of his drafting chances and didn't want to tie himself to a club in case it hindered any AFL prospect (or something along those lines).

I can't see Norwood taking Lobbe in the Mini-Draft (not ruling it out of course, who knows what goes on at the Parade???) - You would think after having skinny bean pole ruckmen like Meeson and Huey on our list the last few years, they might be once bitten twice shy on that ... I'd expect them to go after a midfield option unless Walker is still available.

because dangerfield and the afc have stated that he'll play some (but minimal) sanfl games this year and that north (and centals) are in the position that they can afford to look longterm rather than filling immediate needs and chasing immediate success (be that making the finals in the case of my redlegs or going several steps further eg the blues and the eagles). It also means that north (who have officially stated their position re: afl listed players and playing positions) don't have to really incorporate dangerfield into their 2008 plans but fill the requirements of the sanfl mini draft.
i believe that dangerfield will play the majority of 09 in the sanfl - this of course is based on nothing but my opinion.
he's more than welcome to play the odd c2 game for the Blacks if he wants to.
always forgive your enemies...nothing annoys them so much

I hope we do get Walker and someone who knows him said on BigFooty that he wants to play for Norwood. Let's hope it happens.

Do you think some clubs underestimate the pre season draft? Does anyone know how much time there club puts into researching about the players on offer? It's just i get a feeling from some clubs that they don't really care for it and it's way to hit and miss.

IMHO i think this could be the difference for some clubs in 2008 if you could pick up a gem like Brent Guerra in 2000, the service he gave to Central was unbelievable and the whole time he was at Central he was still on the Power list. There would obviously be other players who have thrived on their SANFL list as well. For my team sake Central i hope we are dedicated to picking up the absolute best when our pick comes around.

Whufc, true, we do need to make our selection count. We have missed out on a chance to make a selection many times in recent years due to our finishing position on the table. We have made some poor choices in the past and have ended up gifting other SANFL players with these later on - Paxman, Lockwood, Surjan for instance.
Cheers

Fair call WHUFC ... I think the best selection Norwood have ever made is Kris Massie (although Matty Thomas is already not far behind), who wears the guernsey almost as if he was born and bred on the Parade ... Unforunately for us, we don't see enough of him and this becomes perhaps the pivotal point.

You would have to think, that given their current positions and squads etc, that selecting a youngster from the Power list would result in more game time at SANFL level, given how far down the pecking order that kid would be at Alberton.

The Crows on the other hand (you would think) are more likely to throw this years batch of kids into the mix earlier than the Power (imho).

PS: I know some will say the Power promote or develop their kids quicker than the Crows and I'm not arguing that, but they already have regular team members from the last few batches of kids, whereas the Crows dont.
