I think the questions are a bit simplistic, they remind me of the set-up of the Replublic Referendum years back.
To bring in another team or deleting one for the sake of a bye is not looking at the problems at hand and into the future.
I'm for another team but feel that it should be from NT or preferably Tasmania (dead in the water now). The SANFL needs to expand and look outside the state boundries as a comp or face being overwhelmed and controlled by a two tier expanding AFL. IMO a two tier AFL is inevitable, if we continue to limit ourselves to SA teams our strength and bargaining power will be limited. Again, the AFL is a major threat to the state comps, their independence and their viability, this is already happening. The WAFL and SANFL as an example, need to set a united front as independent state leagues, maybe start a pre-season comp where the previous seasons' top 3 teams from both states play off, this is only an on-field example, obviously it needs to be done in the boardrooms also, any idea's should be looked at that will form stronger ties between the two. Surely a better foundation can be laid for the future.
I haven't included the VFL in this, which they should be, but I'm trying to highlight the pressure that other state comps are facing. The VFL will increasingly be propped up by the $$$ in Melb and a navel gazing AFL trying to feather their own nests, and probably at other leagues expense. Look at the stand-over tactics by the AFL demanding that the SANFL teams cut their salary caps, mainly to stop ex-AFL players coming over here to play and making the VFL stronger. It was never an issue in the 70's, 80's and 90's when they poached the best with the lure of money. Now the shoe is on the other foot they percieve it a threat and do their best to stamp it out. Remember there is only money guiding the AFL at the moment and I don't think they'll stop at much to keep the books looking good.
