Sturt would have to be up there with the dogs as favourites for the flag, they surprised a few last year, and with the addition of a few more good players including 2007 panther best and fairest Scott Macglone, they should do very well.
Sturts younger players who come out of nowhere last year, should improve and with Brant Chambers and Perrie in the forward line, they will be tough to beat.
The SANFL is very tough to pick besides centrals and the eagles always being up there,I thought like many, the panthers would be top five last year possibly higher, but the season of promise turned very sour!
I cannot wait for the season to start, and I genuinly believe it will be a very tight comp. "Go panthers" :D

I think we'll be lucky to make the 5. What odds are they to make bottom 4 or 5? I'd be happy to put some money on that. Personally I think we overacheived last year. I was happy about our results, but seriously with our squad we were always going to fall away come the latter part of the year.

Agree with you Jimmy, Norths and Centrals would be on the first line of betting, sturts and the bays I rate probably on the second line and the eagle are the unknown factor of last years top teams, a gutsy bookie might lay them. Ports, west, norwood are all possible improvers with souths rebuilding and getting the house in order

Punk frame a market on the winner and a make the 5 market to show what it would look like if thornton took the punt and ran a market on that as well using percentages

Sheesh. Recruit Ian Perrie and people start talking premierships...oh dear...think Sturt might be in for a rude awakening if they start believing these odds.

I believe you are talking about the same Ian Perrie that Glenelg were after ? MMMMM. Just to get this right for you , these are odds by bookmakers not Sturt supporters making claims of a premiership. Starting to look forward to the saeaon in particular playing Glenelg whos supporters seem to be really getting ahead of themselves after making the 5 for the first time in a while. Cant see the players believing in the odds if thats what your getting at .

no supporters i have spoken to are getting ahead of themselves, why would we? a lot of us were expecting to be 5-2 or 6-1 after 7 matches last season not 1-6.........however i smell fear do i not?

You smell fear ?? , I suspect the smell might be the fear of getting in the 5 and dropping out just as quickly again , if not the smell could be the fear changing coaches again , after all he may equal your club record of 4 years , that would give him life membership and long service leave at the bay wouldn't it ?

OCT, just be aware the bays chased him for the tall he is as they have lost some good talls and need thay key forward, sturt have a very good forward and perrie may be more of a hinderance to chambers than an asset.

Dash , I am also aware of why Sturt chased him , dont really care about why Glenelg unsucessfully chased him. Sturt didnt get him to hold down a key position and I cant see him getting in Chambos way ,hes another forward , we had 6 last yaer and the same goes this year. In fact who says he'll play forward ? He may even go back . The thing is with Perrie it just means another big key forward is running around that will need attention , I cant see too many sides matching up on Chambo, Herring and Perrie .....then chuck in Gum ...... .

Dash can assure you any initial disappointment at Perrie going else where has long been replaced with our satisfaction at the recruitment of Grima who gives us more flexibility with his size and athleticism. mind you Perrie was/is no slouch in the aerobic power stakes either.

Having ventured down to Westminster a few times I can atest to the fact that Perrie we have well and truly moved on...

AS a former Sturt league footballer said to me today via email....Grima, this kid can play.....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Thats good . I was just responding the comment about talking flags cos we got Perrie, just stupid comment from a bay supporter. My mail is that Perrie is super fit and really keen to make an impression so I hope he goes well, cos I have been critical of him.

Hey , hows Bodes injury , was it a shoulder again . I reckon he can really give you guys something (if he fair dinkum ) I feel sorry for that guy.

Mate in my post I said Perrie is no slouch in the aerobic power stakes, that means I think he is fit too. Just pointing out that we have moved on.

Anecdotal reports from training are that he is back doing ball work again. To what intensity I've no idea.
