South to Throw Gates Open

All discussions to do with the SANFL

Throwing the gates open to give the fan(s) a free look at the club and the trial match. What a kind hearted and luke warm jesture from the powers that be.
Firstly,I'd be cranky if I was asked to give anything more than a donation for my entry.
Secondly,my club lets me go and have a look there when ever I want to,and its always for free.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

Trial games are not free at Richmond Oval - Doug likes the odd two shillings or two.

Was $2 to get into Alberton on Sat Daniel ... I think concerns over entry fee's for trial games are overrated ... It costs very little yet clubs still have expenses to cover for their participation, and let's face it, what other entertainment can you get for $2 which lasts 2-4 hours??

It will be an each to their own subject

As I said CP,I am more than happy to give a donation at the gate,I would have given the 'Pies a fiver, but asking for a set admission price is a bit rich for me.I guess I am trying to think like the South supporter.

Do you think thats high enough considering, in theory, you should have twice the supporter base?

I was tryin to be kind in regards to the match day attendances Constance_Perm. I don't know where you get the we should have twice the supporter base from. For the last 15 years we have been 1 club Woodville West Torrens (Eagles) not 2 identities. I am so sick of opposition supporters starting the "it takes 2 clubs" tripe. We are only 1 club. Can all opposition supporters start recognising this. If anything we lost some of our supporter base because of the merger.

Alot of people would think they would have to pay to go to the match. Uncle Doug always asks for a gold coin donation for trial game. But i feel it was great of south to let people know there was a game there and it was free to attend they are promoting the club and people on here are bagging them. They are doing better than some clubs and i would like to see the panthers up ther with the best of them slowly but surely this will happen. Yes when they win a final or two they will have younger kids supporting them but at least they are getting into the community and letting people down there know here is our club. I feel all clubs should get out in the community and follow the leads of Centrals and Souths get behind your local team it will improve the league and attendances because kids will get to know the local players and might be able to con mum and dad to go down and see their new heroes. =D> =D> to south on what they are doing.

Geez, talk about touchy ... It was actually a legitimate question, I don't really care what your club structure is mate, they are just another opposition as far as I'm concerned, the point Im trying to make is the Eagles are hardly the best supported team so I'm surprised you would slag off at another club for at least trying something, regardless of whether it proves successful or not!!

Geeezzzz if I can remember the 2 clubs being Woodville & West Torrens could have guts it out and forged on and been financialy viable for quite some time but if you can remember at the same time all the talk was about Port Adelaide entering the AFL and the talk was that if was the case they wouldn't have an SANFL side meaning therefore it would have been a 9 team comp, so in the best interest of the comp the 2 clubs with financial difficulties at the time decidin the betterment of the comp decided to merge. The merge being ratified before the SANFL shafted Port in the backside by entering a bid for a composite side which we now know as the Adelaide Crows.

Rest easy Blue and White you won't be merging with us and I for one hope you don't have to merge with anyone
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Well said Strawberry!
I also believe that those southern suburbs have a lot of potential for the SANFL. The more South does to identify with this region the better it will be for the SANFL, as it could translate into a lot of first time attendees coming through the gate.
