Have a look at the other teams lists from last week and see how many players didn't play that will play this week or how many that did play were only given a half. Sturt for example took a number of their better players of at half time - both the last two weeks from all reports. Really what else do you want to have a go at - do you really hate north that much? So what if we rested them - it will be an excuse if we lose - we were underdone!

Interesting debate! I dont hate any team (well maybe Port  ). "Hate" is a pretty strong word Drebin :? :? I just deduced that OHara and others were not completely fit last week (even if it was just general soreness) and was trying to get to the bottom of it. And it seemed you were throwing up comments that just didnt make sense from my perspective. If the Eagles were "resting" players in the last trial for no apparent reason I would be equally as critical - I just think its the worng way to prepare for what will be a hugely intense game this week - up 3 notches on a trial.

And I would suspect that the players who didnt play last week from other clubs did so because of a niggly or soreness or injury of some sort. And playing a half or playing ressies is a lot, lot different to not playing at all. Playing a half IS getting match fitness/practice. Not playing at all is NOT!

Finally I actually expect North to win this week - if only because of a bit of a home ground advantage. My heart says Eags but my head says North. Either way it will not be the end of the world for the loser - far from it because both teams will look forward to a great season.

Some very good points brought up re Eagles and North ?
What is Lindsey's injury and will he play this week ? Will O'hara manage against BRAD DABROWSKI , from memory O'hara struggled against him in recent outings while playing for the Eagles .If Lindsey does not play and they play ROSS PEDERSEN how will O'hara go facing a very rugged mobile agile ruckmen , in fact the Eagles may well play 2 new ruckman who can run, mark kick and not look awkward like O'hara has in the past . There are 1 or 2 more possibilities that I can see happening in the ruck which were tried last year (didnt really work with Ohara and Lindsey together plus Ellis), our small forward line becomes huge if we play Lindsey, Dabrowski, Pedersen or even the very young Roberts at full forward or pocket .If thats not clear 1 on the ball 1 resting in the forwad lines one on the bench and all 3(depending on who is playing) rotating between the 3 positions . Is norths backline tall enough to handle a resting ruckman who can lead and mark a ball, look what Watts did in the finals game last year(he didnt do much else all year) .
Im pretty sure our midfield has been strengthed over the preseason dont expect the same old faces in the centre this year.
Will be an interesting game Saturday I can not wait SANFL rules .
Where will us Eagles be standing Saturday ?

Brad Dabrowski (I shudder in My boots)

Postby dash61 » Tue Mar 28, 2006 5:29 pm

When in a preview i read that BRAD is a possible key in the game i tremble with fear the world has gone mad, He is not a match winner and with the boys from norths playing for the Beagles and getting a game, is that how far our standard has dropped this year.

I see a lot of good players gone from some teams and not much in replacements, except for Norths and West no other side has brought in a lot of talented new players, ie souths have lost heaps and replaced them with the 65K man. By the way if they bought 5 of the 65K man they could not field a side unless the rest of the club played for a dollar a week plus 5 65K men, amazing how far you can stretch the salary cap as they are going to find out on last years efforts.

Thats 3 ruckmen in a squad of 25. Suggests that 1 won't play.

According to one lad in the SANFL at the moment who has seen Jackson Bolton play, he's a more than handy player ...

As far as i can see he's not named in the side .
From what i have seen last week i agree ,but his shoulder was very heavliy strapped .
Both Bolton and Jarrad appeared to kick the leather off the ball last week .
As reported in the paper this week Eagles have tweeked the playing style a little , maybe the influence from Doggyland

Err because players need to be match hardened. Put it this way - if those few players, inc OHara were rested for no apparent reason other than to give them a break (whatever that means), then I think its a tactical mistake - players need all the match practice they can get at this time of year.

Further note that NA have a bye in round 3 (also 11, 15) - wouldnt they freshen them up in a months time? So all this talk about it being a long season is a lot of twaddle, especially if the players are managed properly.

Chooks must be goin allright then, hey suspect.
