To be honest thought the umpiring wasn't that bad, Central just very, VERY undisciplined IMO.

Good to hear that from a neutral POV; that's much what I thought from watching the box.

The Bays did get 2 goals from frees which I thought were questionable, but other than that it was pretty much on the level. Central got a few soft frees and meterage penalties in the final term so I guess it evens out, but I'd hate to think the umpires were deliberately trying to even up the free kick count...

Firstly, great day in the past players tent as well as popping over in the last qtr to meet Rushby, JB and a few others who escape my battered memory.

Good to see the dogs finally show some fight in the final qtr but it was WAY TOO LATE. Bays too good today, although the umpires were deplorable - no impact on the result but Rowston is the twerp I called him in a thread a couple of weeks ago.

Westhoff needs to toughen up a lot before he would make his way back to the AFL, way too timid today, Symes could have done with a run in the B's as well. Unfortunately C.Gowans, Callinan, Aufderhide & Steinburner were the 4 fellas selling raffle tickets for the players trip today (by the way, I didn't hear the raffle drawn fellas, just as I predicted - the carton of beer 1st prize was drunk before the tickets were sold) - they would be handy additions to the league side.

Hats off to the bays, certainly the better side today and the best side I have seen this season. Looking forward to the next game between the 2 sides in a few weeks at the same venue.

Bit harsh. Quietish first half, pretty good in the second. Lots of tough in and under stuff that might have gone unnoticed. Took that nice contested mark in the 4th term and overall was far from the worst Doggies player out there.

Honest opinion, Goodrem and Faulkner. Surely not in your best 22?

First, well done to Glenelg. They played well all day and the 21 point margin is not a true reflection of Glenelg's perfomane today.

Other than the first 15 minutes of the final quarter, Centrals were an embarrassment to the club. Too many players living on their reputations and giving no respect to Glenelg - wake up guys they're a genuine premiership contender, Centrals are not. I wonder why McCabe came out of retirement he is way past it now and someone must tell him to quietly step aside before he becomes another Carey, Plugger et al. Justin Westhoff appeared to spend the first half sulking he wasn't playing at AAMI Stadium today before gradually getting in the game, kicking 3 goals and taking some good marks.

For those harping on about the umpiring, sure there were a couple of stuff-ups (the Tipett-like premature play-on from a Centrals free resulting in a Glenelg goal being one of them) all up I don't think they were that bad. Glenelg were first at the ball for most of the day and were being rewarded for it. I'd be more concerned about Centrals general lack of effort and commitment than the performance of the umpires.

All up, Centrals faced a major test and fail miserably. At the start of today, there were 3 genuine premiership contenders. Now there are 2.

As bad as Centrals were today at least they weren't as bad as West Coast tonight :D
They don't keep me here because I'm gorgeous and 5'10

Pretty well sums it up.

NB: Disappointing that the Bays' win wasn't rewarded their club song.

Bays in control all day.

Dogs scored in the last 1/4 because I think the younger Bays knew the game was over.

We looked an old team.

Well done Bays. Best I've seen in a long time. You came for one purpose. TO WIN =D>

G'day all.
Have enjoyed your work from afar for some time now.
I posted this on Norwood Forum a short while ago and thought,
"Why not share an unbiased neutral observers appraisal for 1st post"
Utterly, totally, Norwood Tragic bias will eventually surface !
That's a promise !

......... I guess I can get away with a short report on the Canis Vs Tigris game from ‘The Kennel’. Yes I went to Lillybet today. Those of you who may have harboured doubts about SABRE’s sanity need ponder no more. Or is that Ponderosa, or NAP, or Hamra. What the hell ARE they calling their oval this week ?
Really wanted to see if the Bays could reproduce the game style (we suffered) on a larger deck, against a more fancied opponent. The answer is YES.
Mark Mickan has ‘changed the game’ by bringing an AFL style to SANFL level.
His time behind the scenes at AFL clubs was well spent indeed. Very fit players are constantly placed at ideal spaces, distances and angles to allow superior numbers to disarm opposition forays with monotonous ease. The Dogs were spayed, neutered and mauled all over the ground, especially in the 1st half. If Glenelg can continually bring this game to the table every week, without injuries, they can paint a pole for a new flag. After the 1st quarter Central’s score line looked like it could have mirrored ours for the rest of the game. The Dogs had to dig deep (just 5km’s from Earth’s core!) to make the day respectable.
The Bay’s have ‘upped the ante’. I wonder who is going to be the first coach with the nous to negate their ‘high %, turn it over & score’ game plan ?

Just realised it can’t be NAP oval coz it’s ‘A WAKE’ tonight !
 Luv

Seeing as I'm half cut and it's late (and the Mrs will be asleep soon so I'd better hurry up and get there before I miss out) I won't say much. First quarter was the main difference. Allen did all the damage taking seemingly every clearance that quarter, and none of our talls provided a target top help get the ball out of the defensive area.

At least I was proved right about McConnell. 2 goals from free kicks, one on the goal line after the rest of the team did the job for him. One very nice goal with a snap over the shoulder but who know if there was someone in a better position to take the shot because he was never going to pass off. But when the game was one the line in the second half he did nothing. Just reassures me he will be useless come finals when there will be few easy kicks. Just begging for a defender to run off and win himself a Jack Oatey.

Gee, sour grapes. McConnell disppeared in the second half but so what, his first quarter was SENSATIONAL and he set up numerous goals. So really, he played great when the game was on the line, all you ask for I would've thought.

I have wondered that myself.

Now to the game:

I watched the game with my wife in hospital. She's pregnant and preparing to bring another Bulldog pup into the world and her blood pressure has been high - so they needed to observe her.
By quarter time it was my blood pressure they were checking!
There was a complete lack of accountability from our boys - it's the feeling I've been having when I've listened to their games on the radio and in the game I saw on Anzac Day. Yesterday confirmed it for me.
Our boys looked tired with old legs and were never in the hunt.
I'm not going to single out players, as they will all be hurting enough after that game.
I've never seen an opposition team against us with so many lose players streaming down from defence into attack.
The number of turnovers we conceded coming out of our own defence was implausible, I just couldn't believe some of the kicking. Even our run on handball saw us giving up possession because blokes weren't in the spots they have been for the past eight years.
As for the umpires there were some dodgy decisions against us but when you're second to the ball contstantly you make your own luck or lack thereof.
However, I will single out Tony Day/Dey (spell?) for some praise. What an idiot - giving a 25 metre penalty against Paul Thomas because you backed into him???? A bit of commonsense mate, if the contact was deliberate enough to warrant a penalty like that you should have reported him....thank goodness he didn't as Thommo's already got a charge to worry about. Pity the ump didn't see the one he copped first in that little scuffle with Hinge.

Well done Bays, on a great win. And good work on so many supporters getting to the game, I've never seen that many at the Ponderosa before. Dare I say Bandwagon? Who cares if it is, you're going to enjoy the ride.

Don't write us off just yet, but we've got a lot of work to do...

I'll sign off now before this write up takes on Big Phil proportions.

When I first arrived at the ground I went for a pee.

Returning to the game, I passed this young fella warming up inside/outside the Bay rooms.

Some guys were kicking the footy to him pretty hard. Testing him probably.

You could sense the bays were pumped then and we were in for a tough day.

Not harsh at all - he looked and played underdone, I think he could have done with a run in the B's. He'll be better for the run now, although his selection this week was a little desperate.

Goodrem is a long term prospect, I think he needs to be given a game unless a clearly better player is available to us and at the moment there isn't. Faulkner hasn't lived up to expectation at this stage.

Not sure I agree with some of the doom and gloom from Dogs supporters, I for one am still backing us to make the GF, irrespective of todays performance.
