south and the cap

All discussions to do with the SANFL

Postby dogs01 » Sat Apr 29, 2006 6:24 pm

The funniest thing about this topic is they will probably get called up again for this years cap. They obviously dont care about it.The problem for South is they get all these players and get in the sh*t for it but they dont get anywhere at the end of the year.Doesnt really seem worth it.They are better off developing their own juniors.

All clubs are getting audited as they do every year but 3 clubs - South, North and Port have been accused directly by 4 other teams CEO's and President's as being alleged cheats - Centrals excepted they had no issues but two Western suburbs clubs and 2 Eastern suburbs club did. All this of course based on increased recruiting - there is no evidence although one of the clubs in question may have an issue with one of their big recruits who had his Manager pre-season fax his terms around to the SANFL clubs and it said he wasn't interested unless it was $50K plus package - and we know who he signed for don't we!

North will be "Squeky" clean and there is no panic or worry at North. Interesting to see that one of the persons appointed to assist John Condon was Don Shammell - a former NAFC Finance Director.

No offence Coorong but I'd be safe in saying Drebin would have more idea about how North's books add up than your good self.

The only thing non-North Adelaide people would hear (especially one's in other states) would be the false innuendo spread by other clubs and supporters. It basically just comes down to petty jealousy and bascially some club boards/workers trying to justify their own incompetency, the clubs should be bigger than that although I'd expect it from some supporters.

Thanks Wedgie but this topic is like an old broken record which we (you and I) have defended time and time again so let's see what happens - Nothing will at North (hopefully that will shut the cynics up) and who knows with the other clubs?

Hearing some of the goings on behind the scenes I can honestly say that most of the other clubs don't deserve any respect the way they behave, an exception is definately Central in this regard, they're the only other club intent on getting on with the job instead of trying to address their own shortcomings by criticising others with no evidence.

It's ironic that a few of the clubs involved were in the opposite position compared to North Adelaide 3 or 4 years ago and they were happy as a pig in poo, as soon as a club gets off its arse and proactively changes its entire situation around from almost dead to being the best off financially the original clubs in the good possies who had no troubles recruiting players start screaming like strangled duck.
Quite pathetic really but quite common in human nature I suppose.
Sad though, they should get on with the job too and try to build up the comp as a whole instead of trying to justify their own incompetencies and bring the comp down to their level.
I suppose they look at themselves, realise that they were in a better spot than North 3 or 4 years ago and have left miles behind because of their own failings but want to blame someone/something else.
Hopefully things will change though and some of the other clubs will improve their personnel.

Just on a similar discussion I tried to reply on footysa's forum to a question that idiot (says it all) made re wthe topic: "Who is wrong, Drebin or Wedgie?"

I couldn't reply as I was getting an Internal Server Error that said:
"Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, mailto:web@davie.textdrive.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log."

(hope that helps CA, nai or biggs)

But my reply would have been (and will be when it works again):

I'm wrong, I always am. ;)

Seriously though, my comment was much more generalistic (is that a word?) than Drebins.
Technically I'm wrong as it would have been closer to the mark if I had said "everyone knows the clubs are complaining most about 2 clubs......."

You'll find there's people from 5 or 6 clubs who will complain about anything to try and divert the attention from their own incompetencies as explained further on safooty.net

<edit> my reply worked now on footysa<edit>

How can we possibly be over the cap at the moment when 3/4 of the season hasnt been played so therefore 3/4 of payments havent been paid.

This is what a lot of people seem to forget. The investigations were for LAST year.

Coorong, I would shut up before you look like a dickhead.

Coorong that heard someone say something about North and the salary cap even though it came from another person at another club that has no idea regarding North Adelaide V Drebin, who sits in the NAFC CEO's office 2 days a week discussing football.

Hmm, I wonder who I would listen too????

Yes we will see in 8 weeks time.

South and the Cap

Postby sturtpeter » Sun Apr 30, 2006 1:35 am

Given the poor crowd at Noarlunga, the cost of petrol and the bye, let's just say we must look at not only the Cap but the drawing power of clubs which have struggled.

To the credit of the SAFC, they do everything possible to attract supporters to Noarlunga.

Problem is:

It's too far from the CBD.

They don't have a high enough supporter base.

Their hospitality is second to none but they should realise that the Pokie Venue has seen them survive, not their on-field performances.

Do we allow them to cheat the system, receive a small fine for their indiscretions or do we see the SANFL finally stand up and say:

Get Numbers down there or else...

Most games a look at the supporters at 1/4 and 3/4 time huddles shows the Panther fans to be outnumbered by their visitors. I was interested to note the reverse yesterday.

Also I wander if the cap would be an issue if not for the prescence of a mole..........

As a South supporter I would like to thank NAFC for taking over our role as the jealous clubs whipping boys.

With salary cap breaches, I think the problems lay with what's NOT on the books rather than what is.

Or, conversely, how is it that a club that has (in theory) benefited from an (in theory) advantage since 1999 has finished in 7th or 8th every year since then (aside from 2000 - 6th), ie, no real improvement?

As always I am ready to stand corrected. :)
Who else has run in to salary cap trouble apart from Central(s)?
