Norwood had 8 players with more handballs than kicks: at half time, they had 11, to Sturt's 2.
Sturt took over double the number of marks as a result, 112 to 49.
Some other stats:
: Inside 50 - St 49, Norwood 39
Marks in attacking 50: St 17, Nwd 8 (Vlatko had 6 of these)
Contested possession: St 75, Nwd 62
Clangers by hand or foot: St 28, Nwd 35
Running bounces: St 5, Nwd 9
Centre breaks: St 16, Nwd 13
You'd think after all these years Norwood would have realised that we are far too indirect and handball way too much .... but we don't. I don't think we ever will. No matter who coaches us, we still deploy this indirect style of play.
The chief offender is actually our captain James Gallagher, and before him Brett James. But so long as they get the numbers on the stats sheet, people think they are playing great games. Gags has got a touch of the "Chris Judds" in that so long as he gets 20 touches, everyone assumes he is best on ground.
Who in hell came up with the best player list in the Sunday Mail, were they actually at the game? No Kieran McGuiness, no Nick Lower ... jeez

You don't need statistics to understand why Sturt won. They wanted to win, one helluva lot more than we did .. .simple as that.
I'm also bemused by the tackle count. Norwood 41, Sturt 32. Is that because Sturt had the ball most of the time? I ask, because Sturt tackled 500% better than we did.
I don't know about a lot of these stats, they have some entertainment value I guess, but they seem extremely rubbery to me. At least we don't crap on about inside 50s like they do in the AFL
