And Probably should have been more competitive in 2004. But 5 Gf's is a big achievement. Hope he does well in whatever he does from here on. I still remember him tearing up the SAFA playing for Flinders Park!!

And I was just a boy when he came on a coaching clinic to flinders park as a very young sanfl player.
His kicked on and I took up fishing ;)

Even if the Eagles don't win another match is record already makes him the most successful coach in the history of the West Torrens, Woodville or Woodville-West Torrens clubs.

Very true with the title of the thread PhilH...

That is a great effort from Ronnie, well done on his career and ultimate success in 2006. A great coach who will leave at season's end with a great record as PhilH pointed out.

Don't forget he also coached the u17s to 3 flags in a row before taking the League position. That's something not to be sneezed at. Not many clubs can say that they have won 3 flags in a row in the unders with the same coach.

Not every Eagles fan on here is as critical of Fuller. I can't understand some of his on-field decisions recently, but he knows the players better than me and has a better view in the coaches box.

He does have the record on the board and has blooded many talented players locally and for both of these, I congratulate him. :) However I agree with his decision, because I think a new face at the top is needed to go forward, and I hope that face is Mark Jeffries, who has done well in the Reserves so far.

And you are quite correct, ME, and I think that has a lot to do with the juniors he promotes - he believes in the talent he sees.

And I say thanks Ron .You took the club as far as you could and are leaving under good circumstances .With a great stirring win against North Adelaide a good time to announce .Once again well done and thanks Ron .

Now the fun begins for our young CEO to find someone new with new ideas etc to take the club forward .

So what are the thoughts of Eagles fans on the possible replacement for Ronny ???

Would one of the assistants be interested, possibly former reserves coach and club legend Andrew Rogers ?

Maybe current reserves coach, and very passionate, angry and outspoken man in Mark Jeffries ?

Someone completely from outside the inner circle, from another league, to bring in new ideas, recruits, direction etc ???

I think it was West Perth who first gave him the opportunity to play league so he took it

Hamilton was coach in 2000. Fuller started in 2001.

The record speaks for itself. Probably the greatest thing he did was keep that squad together after the 2004 GF debacle and, after being very competitive in 2005, lead the club to the premiership in 2006. He obviously had great belief in the direction he was taking and it paid off.

I hope this announcement sparks something in the side for the rest of the season and they can cause some upsets come finals time.

I am glad there will be a change of coach after this season and I am also glad that Fuller has left the squad in a strong state with plenty of talented young players coming through that have already tasted league experience, as well as leaving a nucleus of senior players to carry the side forward.

Anytime a successful coach announces he's parting ways this far out from the end of season, it promotes speculation of their next appointment ... If he doesnt already have a committment for 2010 Im sure Norwood would at the very least, speak to Ron.

Many Eagles fans will point toward 1 Premiership success in 4 attempts (hope I got that amount correct), but it should be remembered they were up against one of the biggest juggernauts in the history of footy in this state and furthermore, he did eventually climb the mountain.

As a SANFL follower who is distanced from the Eagles, it appears as though he has overseen a very healthy period in the club's history, and has done an exceptional job.

Best of luck to Ronnie, with many Eagles supporters keen to see their club and Ron part company, it will be interesting to see in a few season's time whether they still feel it was the right decision.

Two totally different Coaches Rodgers and Jefferies
Rodgers the quiet type got the seconds in to the 2008 GF

Jefferies very out spoken full of over flowing passion .Seconds in the five lack of current depth a problem as it was for Macgowan.
Jeffries rants and raves and the older seconds/fringe league players love playing for him,or so it appears .
Plus Jeffries can get these players to play a running attacking game ie like Andrew Jarman had north playing when he first started out.
Others should judge quiet coach or man full of passion.

Ron was just on the 5RPH League Teams Show now and was asked if he will be staying in football in 2010...

He responded by saying he has no intentions, at this stage, to stay involved in football beyond the Eagles this season...

He said there are no offers from other sources at this stage and would like to go and watch his son play in the local league a bit more...

I am sure Ron is ready for a break from footy so don't expect to see him at an opposition club.
I think all parties are ready for a change so hopefully the Eagles can secure an outstanding person for the job.
Ron was on a pretty lean salary so a high profile replacement will stretch the budget further.
The next best rookie coach in waiting is Mick Godden, he is a key figure in Glenelgs's current resurgence albeit
he has just accepted a coaching job in the NT I believe.
Rogers does not have the desire to be a league coach and as hard as Jeffries tries he will be out of his depth as
the key figure of the club.
Interesting times ahead and good timing by Ron in making the decision.

Ron has presided over a period of stability and relative success in his tenure. The club has been respected on and off the field for it's solidarity and competitiveness.
I feel he has made the correct decision at the right time and hopefully the players can show their respect by going as deep as they possibly can in the finals.
The next appointment is crucial to get right. A little more flair is needed in our game plan and possibly a 'modernisation' as well. I hope the new coach can attract a decent ruckman, a key defender, a key forward and a couple of gun on-ballers.
Next year we won't have Broadbent and possibly not Salter and definitely not Passador.
Luck is where opportunity meets preparation
