Might be a good thing for Westies. I know there aren't too many positive stories about him here in the Riverland.
However, if part of him moving on is his health, I wish Doug all the best.
He actually did me a good deed once.

We're just going along quietly Mr Strawb, in the black last year and the year before, by the sounds of thing we may have spent $80K more on players than you did last year...

Cue Borat,TB,Tassie.....

Maybe want to cue EHL , ME and CD as we're sitting 3rd, Eagles are 4th Boonster.

Does the WWT footy club know that Kantilaftas is looking at going back to Westies where he played and was development manager....

Learn't everything he knows about running a footy club of uncle Doug

The Eagles players spent all their time down at the Sandbar at Henley Beach....

Maybe Fuller was sacked but we and he just don't know it yet, certainly many Eagles supporters sacked him last year, several times.....

Unfortunately over here in the Wimmera I'm far removed from the "truth" perhaps you can enlighten me Boonster.

FWIW though getting back to the topic of this thread. No one can question that Doug has been a great servent of the WAFC and the SANFL, but taking an objective view he probably ran his race 5 years ago.

I hope he decides to go quietly and doesn't drag the WAFC through the courts, he can look back proudly on his contribution to the WAFC. Mind you, how Westies have got it set up that someone else is going to run the Football club, while he is in cahrge of the footballers club is very messy, quite Westies really....

Not a the best practice solution to the problem one could say...

Doug is a genuinely good bloke. My one game as a state trainer he and Barrie Robran were the two senior officials that took time to talk the trainers and showed an interest and value in what we were doing as volunteers, compared to some of the other big wigs who thought their excretement didn't stink.....

That will be my enduring memory of Doug Thomas a great servent of the WAFC and the SANFL.

This is all a bit sad.

I feel for Doug Thomas, not only for the predicament he finds himself in but also because of his obvious health problems. Get well soon!

It seems to me though that his decision to dig in is a bit selfish. Surely he wouldn't believe that a person in good health, with new ideas and a broader experience wouldnt be better for the WAFC at this time. Its a shame and I dont think he is doing himself or the FC any favours by bringing in the lawyers - if he really loved the club he would leave them out of it. Again seems a bit selfish to me. Or maybe its more complicated than pure selfishness - maybe like all people in his situation facing forced retirement, he's just finding it hard to cope with the idea of life without his one passion in life - and he's clinging on by whatever means possible.

All my opinion based on a very superficial view of the situation of course - as an outsider looking in.

Maybe you are onto something on the Queen/DT relationship.

Rumours are abounding (is that a word) that the Queen doesn't think Poonce Charles could handle the head job *.

Maybe DT thinks that the second in line to his throne (the one WITH the light bulb) is of a similar ilk?

My Question to you.... would you "walk away, retire call it what you will" which would also be turning your back on a probable huge pay out for service (long service leave accural, holiday pay accural etc)... or would you hold out for the club to sack you??

Good Question

I think at that age you are not making wise business decisions and you are holding on for yourself and can often drop the ball on what you are being paid to do and this can have massive ramifications - I have seen it first hand and on many occassions.

I would retire as it shows some dignity - the amount of money difference in this decision would not be much differnent either way I think. It depends if you wish to bite the hand that has fed you for so long !!!!!
