Norwood has underachieved and overachieved this season..sometimes within the course of a single match! Must be a nightmare for the coaching staff.

This was my predictions at start of season.
2006 predictions
1. EAGLES (it must be our year)
2. NORTH (recruited well but can they perform under pressure in september)
3. PORT ( no movement expected 2 good pick ups but loss of T.Brown will hurt)
4. CENTRALS (Huge losses, naturally expect slide, still good enough for top5)
5. SOUTH (finally the breakthrough year)
6. NORWOOD (further improvement needed before goal of top5 is reached)
7. STURT (big slide down expected after big losses)
8. GLENELG (always look like improving but don't deliver often enough tp make top5)
9. WEST (nothing to say except wooden spoon)

Looking very good Eagles will become minor premiers this weekend if we can beat port and the dogs can do the job on north tonight. Port still a chance for top3 with the dogs still in the hunt and if south can win their last 2 they still make 5. so overall my predictions are looking good. Some surprises glenelg the major one had everyone fooled.

I don't hold much stock in this overachieving or underachieving caper. How can you "over-achieve"? You can only play to the standard you are capable of. No better. And there are many other factors (injury, etc) which can see a club's performances waver.

As a Norwood supporter, I don't feel particularly bad about the way 2006 has panned out for us. Sure, there were times when I would have liked better performances, and maybe a couple of times I thought we should have won when we didn't. But I think the same can be said of most, if not all, clubs at various times this season.

When the season started, I was under no illusions about our premiership chances. I thought we had West and Sturt covered and probably Glenelg and South as well which meant possibly 5th spot. Early in the season this appeared to be the case. We went awfully close to defeating the Eagles, and we have knocked off North, Central, South and Glenelg.

I honestly feel the standard of SANFL has improved markedly in the past 12 months. This current Norwood team would have played finals in 2005, but we find ourselves in 7th spot. I don't think we've gone backwards, or forwards. My big worry is for 2007. I can see us losing some very important players with little resource to replace them or improve our playing stocks.

I think that Central, with a strong performance in their end of year Supplementary Exams, have upgraded their B- to an A.

Agreed, I did say the Dogs usually improve a grade or two at the important part of the season.
You can add a + to that if they take out yet another premiership which I think they will.
They've got the mental wood on the Eags and North have about 487 unfit players.

After Port beat Centrals at Alberton in about R20, there was a very realistic chance the doggies could miss the finals. Shows how close this year has been.

I disagree, it doesn't show how close the year has been, it just shows the Dogs know when to turn it on when it counts.
I have nothing but admiration for Roy Laird and his club.

What I mean is, there was a chance the team that has belted both North and the Eagles in the finals so far, may not have even had the chance to do so. Blind Freddy can look at the ladder and see it was close, with four teams battling it out for three finals spots.

Yeah I know what you mean but I think that is distorted to a degree in that the Dogs always do what they need to to win a flag.
While Port were trying their guts out trying to win a game in Rd 13 and while North were trying their guts out to win a game in Rd 5 and while Glenelg were trying their guts out to win a game in Rd 1 Central always were in 2nd gear knowing exactly what they had to do the whole time.

If the Dogs thought they had to win the Rd 20 clash against Port to win the flag they would have.

I agree with you, but in saying that, if Centrals did beat Port it would have virtually sealed their finals birth, as it would have knocked Port out of the finals race. Watching Centrals now is like watching Port in the 90s, always step up another notch in the finals. Supremely confident, and know they can win the flag from any position on the ladder.
