Power From Port wrote:Went to a Dinner in the Port last tuesday and there were some Magpie/Power officials as guest speakers.

Apparently for 2015 they have two backup options if they dont get their prefered option. One was become the powers reserves and potentialy align with a ammos club i.e Port Districts and have an independant academy

Plan B Was to play in the VFL

Thoughts

An alignment with an Amateur Club in the Port area won't cut it. The SANFL zones will get re-aligned and Port's zone would be dead for whichever SANFL club had to take it as all the kids in the area would play for Port District. That's not going to be good for the SANFL.

Good luck affording the VFL if the Crows can't.

I think in the end the biggest losers out of all this Reserves debate will be the Port Magpies supporters. The only ones they can blame are the Power.

A compromise would be Port Magpies consisting of all of the Power Reserves, plus say 16 top up players from the Magpies' zone under a certain age (say 22).

If you don't get picked in that 16 or you are over the age of 22 and not on the Power's list, you either play Magpies Reserves or find another club.

A reasonable compromise?

This is what Ports original proposal was. All players were either AFL listed or from the Magpies zone. No ex-AFL recruits and no inter-SANFL recruits.

The age restriction and top up squad restriction is the point of difference.

We don't owe anyone shit. And the SANFL hasn't give us anywhere near $12.5m. Half that and your closer to the mark.

Olson stated on 'Radio AFL' last Wednesday Night, that was the figure.

Even if it is 1/2 of that, pay your debt back first before 'forking out' more $$$ to play in the VFL!!!

In that case, work with port to get a model both parties are happy with and they wont need to leave to save the magpies.

(Just maybe, they really do care about the magpies )

TC is correct ... there is no debt as any money provided by the SANFL to Port were grants not loans.

The league and directors have already decided the Cows and Power must have identical conditions.
Cant see it changing.
Was also mentioned that the Magpies license to play in the SANFL can be revoked at any time.
Which ever way Port choose to go with their Ressies there will not be a Magpies next year

Jim I've heard all that. Basically they can't have their model because.... ummmm, just because. No one ever seemed to explain the issues with it (company tree to the crows)... and certainly they weren't given a chance to address then - I guess trigg is so much further up Olsen s backside.

If they pull their AFL players from the sanfl (like this board wanted he crows to do..... remember that very long no AFL in sanfl thread), then if the magpies were still booted that would say more about the sanfl administrators than they would care for.

No port AFL players in sanfl.... it's half of what you wanted.

Olsen doesn't know what hes talking about. Port may have been given $12m as a grand total but the majority has come from the AFL, not the SANFL.

Port to play their reserves team in the vfl in 2015 with no team in the sanfl and that leaves the sanfl with its 9 team comp which includes its darling crows. Port vfl funded by the 600k the sanfl would no longer get. Sanfl shitting in its own nest. If you think the power not looking at this u all have blinkers on. From wat I hear has afl support behind the scenes. Sanfl becoming a laughing stock of old boy brigade !!!! No wonder footy going backwards in this state. :D

Whilst the SANFL still owns Ports license I cant see them being allowed to go to the VFL

That was a loan to the SANFL from the AFL that the SANFL have to pay back. So effectively, the SANFL is left with your debt.
