Most other ovals in the state have at least 4 games a day, im sure the pristine Adelaide Oval could handle it

Exactly, there was always 4 games at footy park on GF days and that held up well

double headers would be great

im sure for a day there would be a way they could come up with a way to have shared space and it would be not alot different to having reserves, league, 18's as happens at suburban grounds fairly regulary.

Would be great to see

10:00- Glenelg vs South
1:00- West vs Eagles
4:00- Centrals vs North
7:00- Norwood vs Sturt

There is 5 change rooms at AO Port, Crows, Away team and the 2 cricket rooms. Game 1 and 3 can share rooms and Game 2 and 4 can. The cricket rooms have been used before as football change rooms so no problem unless they have been renovated. The best weekend to of done this would of been this weekend. I don't think having 4 games would be best though. Each club would (and should) have a even cut of the profits. The 4.00 and 7.00 game would have a higher attendance then the 10.00 and 1.00, especially the 10.00. I think it would be better having just 2 games and schedule only those 2 games for the day.

I only recall three (from 2005-2013) League, Reserves, U/19 or 18; however you are correct they did hold up ok. In truth it's not a big deal in my mind anyway, I would still like to see this tried out just for something different to see how well it works...no harm in doing that.

2nd Edit: At least in 2003 and 2004 Adelaide Oval had the GFs of 17s and 19s before the Preliminary League (yes, there was 10k for an Eagles/West PF in 2003!) And 10k for the PF the following year, too.

I seem to remember in the 80's and 90's there was the 17's, 19's, ressies and League GF all played on the same day

It definitely didn't happen in 1993, the 19s and 17s played at Football Park the day before the Preliminary; other records I have of the 1983 19s GF at Woodville; the 1984 17s GF at Woodville and replay at Unley, also the 2000 19s and 17s were a double header under lights at Norwood.

Fair enough I must mistaken it was so long ago. Could of sworn South won a juniors gf before the Eagles v Norwood league gf in 1993 but my memory of that day is a little hazy

But the reason ive heard about double headers not happening is the sharing of change rooms.

Id love to see double headers or more on one day

Love the 4 games back to back at Adelaide Oval idea as a season launch. Could probably hold the first one off until 11am and still get a night game in at 7pm. Reduce the entry fee or refund it if you buy a membership on the day. Could drag an extra 5-10k people to an early SANFL round and hook them on our product. Schedule it on an AFL free weekend. Great suggestion.

Schedule the 4 matches between the traditional clubs.

Also use the ladder from previous season as a guide for the matches.

Glenelg are reserve standard at moment and would have no difficulty in starting early like traditional reserve matches

A quadruple header would be stupid. Going to two games is OK, three is a stretch, but no-one would ever watch four games in the one day, so why would they all be scheduled on the one day? Have two on Saturday, two on Sunday, all at Adelaide Oval, and send the interlopers off to play in Addis Ababa or some bloody place.

I don't think anyone said people would go to watch all 4 but what u would get is alot of media attention, it would become a carnival type day as a one off to launch the season.

Imho u would also capture alot of friendship groups who may go to 2-3 games because of mates who all support different teams

With only 8 teams you would have time to work out a "ladder of integrity", play 1st v 2nd with the winner into the GF, 3rd v 4th with the loser off to get a pie or pasty from the Balfours van while the loser of 1 v 2 and the winner of 3 v 4 playing in the Prelim.

The other 4 teams could sit on the grass, legs folded, watching the action unfold. Maybe some face painting for them to keep them amused.

Play the GF under lights and get the whole season done in one day!

Sounds great and as good as any other idea here!!!

I hope the SANFL are reading this sensational idea for next season - however for the SANFL to do anything apart from putting up entry fees is a little bit hopeful

Do u agree the SANFL needs to do more to help promote its own clubs.

Personally if done in round 1 where every team has high expectations imho it would create a really good atmosphere and kick start to the season much like the finals double headers at AO.

It's gimmicky and it goes against the grain abit but I think the SaNFL needs to do something to help the 8 SANFL clubs otherwise there darling AfL clubs will have to play each other each week

I would love to hear your ideas or are you of the thought as long as Port are fine stuff everyone else

Yep, the SANFL do need to do more.

But again, 6 of the 8 clubs voted this in with either the information given to them or the pressure put on them, or a bit of both.

A fair bit of this needs to be put back on the clubs, if they didn't think people ( read - Money ) were going to walk out the door with the advent of this system then more fool them.
