Wouldn't both Gowans be SANFL life members?

Isn't it the SA Footy Hall of Fame? Despite not playing a whole lot of SANFL Footy, I would've though Cornes, Edwards etc have given a hell of a lot to South Australian Footy and are deservable indctees.

Agreed they should be.

I have a problem with these awards.

If a young South Australian who excels as a junior is drafted at No 1 and plays for Brisbane wins 3 premierships, 2 brownlows and 5 best and fairests can't get in this hall of fame than why can a not so exceptional South Australian who gets drafted at 57 by the Power or Crows, do a lot less, and be eligible for it?

The criteria for a lot of the awards is based solely on the luck of the draw disadadvantaging players depending on which team picks them up.
Stupid IMHO.

Should just leave it as a SANFL Hall of fame.

What would have been funny is if they had only admitted one of the Gowans this year and the other next year.

Would have provide a years worth of sledging and whinging betwen the two of them and those that know them....

Ten inductees every year is too many - five would be ample.
Three years after finishing playing to be eligible also isn't long enough - somewhere around six or seven years would be better.

Seems a little too soon to get something like this, should be atleast 6-7 years out of the game

Is it 3 years after finishing playing in the SANFL and/or for the 2 adelaide based AFL teams perhaps?
Coz Studley did play last year didn't he.....Albeit for GWS.

What most want is a SANFL hall of fame. Simple.

Only the SANFL could fvck up the official player profile. Darel Hart coached North in his second stint from 2001-2003 and no mention that he captained North's 87 premiership and won a Jack Oatey medal in 91. I know they have limited space but attention to date detail at least!

Yeah, I really feel for that guy. It sounds like he needs some more individual recognition. Especially from a state that he played none of his adult career in.

I see what you mean, with the SA Football Hall of Fame being so overclogged with late draft picks to SA AFL clubs who then squeezed out mediocre AFL careers. You can't get anywhere near the Hall of Fame bar for those guys. And when they're not sucking back heavily subsidised piss, they're endlessly complaining about how Paul Rouvray's invitation somehow got lost.

if there's one thing I can't stand, it's the randomness of life. Why should the luck of the draw disadvantage talented kids who've been born in SA, depending on things they can't control like which parent takes them to live somewhere else? This is why I hope I can count on you to second my nomination of Adam Goodes to the South Australian Football Hall of Fame.

SA football hall of fame, should be based on contribution to SA football should it not? Hard to make a case that a bloke who makes a massive contribution to a non SA club has helped football here significantly. Football, like life in general, is rarely fair. Plenty of blokes worked harder and wanted it more but just lacked talent, happened to be better at a different sport or just simply chose to pursue a different career. This isn't about being fair, this is about reality.

Heard the Gowans interviewed on MMM. Almost every year they get a premiership reunion, and now a hall of fame night. Good to hear James acknowledge the supporters and comment on how important the SANFL is. Congratulations to all inductees.

Just watched the Gowans' videos on the SANFL site.
Made me remember how many good times they'd provided us supporters and how much I miss seeing them on the field.

Case in point Matthew Primus. A Victorian kid who couldn't get more than a couple of reserves games at the club who has a grandstand named after his grandfather. Spends 5 minutes at Norwood, then via a dying Victorian club ends up at one of SA's AFL clubs and has such an impact that a rule was changed to stop him and other like him from being so dominant. How many young SA ruckmen did he inspire and influence during his time at Port. Would Sam Jacobs be one, Will Minson, Keegan Brooksby maybe (probably too young though lol)? You get the picture anyway.

Doggies fans aren't going to like this post but ...

It is my understanding that SANFL hall of fame inductees must have been retired from football for a minimum of 3 seasons before being inducted yet the Gowans have only been retired for two.

Former Doggies captain Paul Thomas has a string of awards, achievements and premierships but the Gowans get inducted ahead of him.

Phil Gallagher has been retired from playing since 1986, has a string of awards, achievements, sanfl directorship 1995-1999, league commission 2000 onwards and 4 premierships but took 28 years to be inducted yet the Gowans only 2

(I do agree with other posts that Primus has more AFL on his CV than SANFL.)

It's not the 'SANFL Hall of Fame' it's the 'South Australian Football Hall of Fame'...
