leaving dogs

Postby braveheart » Sat Sep 30, 2006 11:10 pm

for a start jake levy never left the dogs,he was told by the coaching staff that he was no longer wanted there and had no future ,but yes there has been many young players leave ,and i'm not sure it's all about playing at the top level, money has alot to do with it,to get paid $50 dollars before tax per ressie game, then train 3 nights a week plus pre season saturdays or sundays is way to much for these youngsters to handle, when you can go play in the saafl or country football train less 2 times a week and get paid more,i dont blame them one bit as life in football is short,i could name 4 or 5 young dogs players that left for that very reason.

because we are in a diffrent era now you ask most junior kids were they would like to play football when the older and 99.9% would say the AFL ,but when these kids reach 22 to say 25 the dream of ever getting picked up by an AFL club has gone,so they leave the SANFL to go play local football saafl or country were the training is less and the money is more we dont live in the 60's 70's 80'or the early 90's were the SANFL would be a kids dream to play for,and i hate the AFL with a passion, the SANFLl will rule in my books for the rest of my life, its so sad to see these kids drop out of the SANFL system but football is all about money these days :(

BUT, who pisses in their pockets & tells them that they have a chance of playing AFL in the first place? Surely the player would know if they are that good or not? I knew when I was 15 that I was shit!

I played under 13s through to under 17s. Between 1989 - 1993.

Got axed from the 17s the same night as Tom Machede and some guy called Michael O'Loughlin :o

I was no star, although if I'd had the same chances of some others, I might have done a little better.
In the end I chose to concentrate on my studies.
