braveheart wrote:your right the asain tag for woodville that was not called for but as some has said before of sick of the crap we get for living in elizabeth, im sure if you all look in your family tree most not all would be from england somewhere down the line, if the 2 team's had not merged i think there would be a bigger crowd at the game, more work needs to be done by your comunity guy who ever that is, in trying to bring the 2 area's 2gether your club has had 15 year's 2 do so but failed so far,i'm sure there were plenty of west torrens surpporters and woodville that hated the idea of the 2 clubs forming one ,and to me it looks like plenty more work needs to be done.

But how much of an impact has the change in cultural groups living in the region effect the Eagles?
As while you rightly pointed out, Elizabeth rich English heritage would suggest the round ball would suit our area, Anglos have always enjoyed the game, while there's a significantly smaller Asian interest on the game.
I could count on one hand the number of Asian players that I have played against in my time on the field.
While Peter Bell and Sudjai Cook are the only two players I can think of to have played at a higher level.

I'm confused as to why support for a club has to be done in the immediate area?
There are clubs that I think benefit more from the area they are in, when it comes to recruiting supporters because of where they live.
South Adelaide and Centrals are in a great area for this purpose. Both clubs are blessed with a huge area to use with nothing on "the other side". Both clubs (Centrals more so) have taken huge advantage of this - and more power to them.
Regardless, I'm a third generation Torrens man. My Grandfather, and my Dad grew up a stone's throw from the Torrens Road/south Road Intersection, yet Dad moved to Modbury Heights, and I also live north east.
Because of the area that Woodville is in I think it's probably the hardest to recruit these "new" supporters. Centrals and Souths have the ideal location as I mentioned. If you live anywhere near the Parade, chances are you follow Norwood if you don't have a "traditional" allegence.
If you are from around the Port - well, it's almost in the water. Living at the Bay means there's a strong culture of black and gold which is easily to get caught up in and become excited.
The three I think that have the harder time of recruiting based on area are the Eagles, Sturt & North Adelaide - probably in that order too.

That's a good point Diss. I know the Eagles cricket club was struggling big time at Thebarton, but have gone from strength to strength since moving to Henley Beach about ten years ago. Many of the Eagles players come from the Henley area (which has always been Torrens' zone) and if the footy club was based there, I think there would be a larger supporter base. It would be impossible to make the move though as there is now no suitable space to build a SANFL standard ground.
