He also confirmed since, that Backwell did not train on Friday night (Mt Lofty climb), but Mathew Clarke did, sadly he indicated to Mickan that he is most likely to take up the offer from St Kilda.

That's because Backwell was in the group that went swimming instead.

This looks like a typical case of a rumour starting when someone hears half the truth, but not the whole truth.
