Interesting how they would have gone in the AFL if they stayed.
.
I think they might have struggled. Too much "personality" for the sanitised AFL.

Witnessed Norsworthy collect 46 possesions ( no exageration ) in a reserves game against West Adelaide last year , the boy can play that's for sure & is currently training at South Adelaide i believe . I remember his old man playing back in Centrals early days in the comp with the likes of Wilbur Wilson , Phil Graham and Renee Vandommel .
What i dont know about football isnt worth knowing .

Barry Northsworthy was his dad a good rover.
Mullholland was first rover and Norsworthy 2nd rover about early seveties.

must clarify.....more so the dialogue about the 'flashy finals footy' as it was easy to see it wasnt meant to cause a stir yet it did....and it happens like that so often....not so much the whole thread about the dogs ins and outs...that is interesting itself.

Using the word 'flashy' to describe a team will always get the hackles up. When I played junior footy, the 'flashy' player was the guy who played for himself, didn't do the hard things, went for big marks and goals, didn't play on wet days, bit soft, etc ....... Maybe Mal didn't mean it like that but no-one wants to be called 'flashy' :)

I always thought of flashy as what's in the dictionary:

flash·y /ˈflæʃi/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[flash-ee] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–adjective, flash·i·er, flash·i·est.
1. sparkling or brilliant

My dictionary has a bit more to that sentence Wedgie...

1. sparkling or brilliant, esp. in a superficial way or for the moment: a flashy performance.

Are you guys saying the Gowans boys were recruited direct off St Kilda's AFL list and have 'chosen' to play SANFL over the AFL all these years? I think if they had been re-drafted they would have gone back home.

PS - I think the guys are wonderful players

HONDO I cant dispute with your comment.
Perhaps as younger players by staying at SK they may have established
themselves as AFL players.
To redraft them in their early 20s was a factor, AFL clubs draft a lot of teenagers.
Still we have been fortunate in SA to see the 2 champs dominate SANFL footy.
Geez I wish they played for Norwood.

The Gowans are over-rated... everyone forgets that they're two players.

Lol. I bet you wish there were some over rated players in the Eagles side that could have played on them in a couple of GF's.

Playing in the past 12 grand finals (the last 7 of that SANFL) has to be more than luck, Aerie.

They're good, but I don't think they have been as good as some of the other Central players over the last 7 years. And I think the fact there are two of them it makes it appear as though they're everywhere and people think of them as one. I always thought Bello, Hopwood etc. were better players. I rate Chris higher than James.

Most rate Chris higher than James, but the mongrel they provide is that of two players as well as the volume and quality of posessions. They wouldn't be getting a game if they weren't contributing. Most certainly both in the top 6 at the club over the last 7 years - given the success in that time, they are better than good.

Bugger, you caught me with my selective quoting there.
Im not interested in the quantitive part of a defination anyway, too grey an area to worry about.
