Glenelg doesn't wear a Richmond jumper. However, recently Richmond wore the Glenelg jumper for a few years.

I love the idea of bringing back heritage guernseys occasionally. There's nothing wrong with trying a few gimmicks to generate extra publicity for the SANFL. I'm sure the Advertiser will run articles on both North & Centrals heritage games, and who knows how many ex-SANFL supporters will be lured out for that weekend just for a dose of nostalgia.
Not to mention the $20K- $30K worth of revenue that will be gained from auctioning the guernseys.
Players win touches, Teams win matches, Clubs win Premierships.

Good to hear, with North and Central already getting into 80s mode it'd be good to see the Warrior or Peckers guernsey and Torrens yellow sash back.

Exactly what I was hoping for myself Wedgie. I think it's a gret idea to celebrate your club's heritage. Maybe just maybe the SANFL should take a leaf out of the AFL's book and have a nominated round each season where all clubs wear a jumper from their clubs past.

Does the SANFL have to follow the AFL on everything? The AFL heritage round shits me to tears and it's anohter marketing excuse for the corporate brand, something the SANFL is not. I'm all for the occasional milestone or celebration where heritage guernseys are worn (like the 2001 centenary game between Norwood and Sturt) but doing it on a continuous basis is cost prohibitive for SANFL clubs and it's money that could be better spent elsewhere.

No I'm not suggesting the SANFL needs to follow the lead of the AFL on everything because on a whole I think the AFL make a lot of shit decisions. But having said that I do like the heritage round concept and I do feel if that sort of concept was tried by the SANFL it would be extremely popular plus the fact if it was done properly it could mean a merchandising bonanza.

The Eagles had the old Torrens guernsey with the yellow eagle last year, how often do you want it brought back?

... and the old Woodville guernsey they wore later in the year was more or less the same as the Warriors jumper.

Point taken ..... I just happen to really like those particular guernseys. To me, the current Eagles blue guernsey isn't as striking as the old Torrens Eagle; and the current gold Eagles guersney isn't as bold as the old Warriors one. Guess it's proven hard to combine the 3 colours and it's a matter of personal opinion.

As for the 80s Centrals jumper - I think the overall outfit was too white and it improved when the hooped socks were brought in by Kerls' first year as Coach. May have been better with the same front but with an all-blue back with white numbers. I think the current Central jumper is one of the really goods ones in history.

I think Heritage Games/guernseys in the SANFL is a great idea, as it celebrates the golden days of the SANFL when the support was at its' greatest. Older fans who now only watch the AFL can identify with it and may go along and have a look. If it helps to bring in a few extra people through the gates, then so be it.

I reckon for the Torrens guernsey, they should have the braces guernsey -yes it was worn during the two wooden spoon years of 1975 and 1976, but Torrens also wore it in the 30s' and won a flag with it.

Was it 2006 or 2005 that the Eagles wore three heritage jumpers
1993 WWT jumper against Sturt
then the old Torrens and woodville jumpers.

It was great to hear the old woodville chant in the grandstand when we wore the Woodville jumper.Pitty we didnt have a torrens chant when we wore the torrens jumper.

2005 for the 1991/92 guernsey; as well as that white one.
2006 for the Woodville and Torrens guernseys.

I agree; both those guernseys were ace. I do think a better job could have been done in combining the Torrens and Woodville jumpers. I thought the Footscray-style '93 guernsey was a good one. Imagine a jumper with a gold sash, Torrens' blue underneath the sash, and the Peckers' green and gold stripes above the sash. That would have been a nod to the histories of each component club.

But alas, again the guernseys will only be available to those with lots of cash and access to eBay.

Why can't the clubs release a limited number of the jumpers to the general public?!

I seem to remember that West Torrens wore a royal blue jumper with a gold sash in the early 80's. That was a nice design and I reckon the Eagles should wear a replica of that in the Heritage Round.

Geez Pseudo, if thats not a combination to make an man throw up after a few bevvies, nothing will

Roosters in the 72 Champs of Australia guernsey
WWT in the WT blue with gold eagle for one game and the Peckers striped pyjamas for one game
Bays in their yellow miss world sash
PAM in their prison uniforms

Considering how much the heritage jumpers go for on ebay, I wouldn't be surprised if the clubs profited from the exercise from that alone.

Yeah, good call.

Although do they reach saturation point after a time?

maybe if they rotated heritage jumpers every few years if they can....that way ppl will try and big on 'new' ones each year...i like the idea of it and esp having the chance to own one, like i did 2 years ago with wicksy ;)

Its OK, Ive replaced the pics with one's on our server now.
It seems "Captain Centrals" aka Campbell now puts his petty little games ahead of promotion of his own clubs events, its a shame when it rubs off on his own club, look how the official site now looks thanks to him! :?

PS Great to see he reads this great site, thought it would be even too much for his ego to avoid looking at the best footy site going around ;)

Campbell does an excellent job of portraying himself as an idiot.

Incidentally, they're celebrating 100 years in the VFL/AFL this season down Punt Road.
Thus making the Richmond Tigers 14 years older than the Mighty Bays!
