I have noticed that at Elizabeth a very large number of supporters do spend games doing laps of the ground. I don't have a problem with this but is there a reason or is it just a habit or ritual that has developed? Not just the end to enders but a lot of supporters just seem to go round and round during play as well as at end of quarters. Good for fitness levels i guess :)

It was probably supporters walking from 1 amenitie to the other- need more facilities. Spend some of your coin Dodgies!

I did a fair bit of manouvering around the ground.
Like was posted earlier it's because it is a bit of a social event. But, not because it's the place where bored kids go to have something to do(that to me is very patronising), but because there is such a huge community feel to Doggies games. Everyone knows everyone else in Elizabeth. For me it was a great night, I caught up with my family, my wife's family, blokes that I played football with as a kid, and as an adult, and had a beer with Bulldog Pommy. Also spent part of the night with some people from Loxton watching their son play his first game for the Roosters.

As far as amenities go - they're fine. What more's needed? They were fine when the ground hosted larger SANFL crowds and they're fine now.

And - I agree, the original post was inflammatory. Or at the very least ill conceived.

the one canteen under the scoreboard in the forward pocket (sans chip machine), & the 1 booze caravan is not enough, is what I was suggesting.

Wow a Rooster supporter complaining about amenities!! That's like a Westies supporter complaning about the lights!! Crikey - clean up your own act before you make comment on other grounds hey? Don't worry about doing laps of the oval - if you want the dunnies at Prospect you have to walk to the pub at Enfield and if you're waiting on a beer down in the club at half time don't expect to see any more of the game.

I think the facilities food and beverage wise aren't great, and if there are going to be night games on a regular basis , which appears a certainty, this will hurt the club going forward. Should be looked at. And bring back the spud man.

I think the common denominator in all these violent incidents is North supporters.......

I can see where Punky's coming from RE: the food outlets, probably ok for a Sat arvo game where you've had lunch before you go, but 6:00pm start, a lot are looking for tea, unless you want a balfours pie (if you can call that a pie), you have to walk around the other side of the oval. Maybe another BBQ in the outer would be good for night games.

Agreed, now if we can just work out a plan to keep North supporters away from those Norwood v Central games where so much violence in the past has been reported! And why they made SANFL staff shut down bars early because of past events at Footy Park Grand Finals even before their reserves made a GF this century is beyond me, North supporters are evil.

There was 2 North supporters at Encounter Bay on Saturday and no signs of violence, nowhere near Elizabeth, and no Elizabeth residents in sight.
I see a common denominator at violence free games!

Toilet is 10 metres away from where I stand at Prospect, I know of at least 4 others too, open your eyes mate!
In all seriousness I see where you're coming from re ammenities are concerned although I do get beers at Prospect much quicker than most other grounds but that's mainly because of the volunteers involved and others jumping in if needed.
Having said that, Centrals have had a very good relationship with their council over recent years and well done to all parties involved, North have been screwed previously when compared to the cricket club's lease but things like that are in the process of change.
North are looking at getting a longer term lease or even purchasing down the track the grandstand areas so they could at least do capital improvements in that area down the track.
I don't have a huge issue having to walk a bit further on a big ground and Ive always got beers pretty quickly at Elizabeth, also usually a good choice of products. I love the grassy areas and look forwawrd to us hopefully having a day game there again so I can take the kids to enjoy it.

PS Don't go all the way to Enfield, stop at Sefton Park where the Northern Tavern is, its closer and a fantastic pub!

Don't worry we tried on numerous occassions looking for you to spill some of that roosters blood , but on each occasion the search party got distracted as he went by the beer tent.

Should have gone counter-clockwise to avoid that temptation of the amber fluid

Yeah I cowered behind the Northern goals next to the Whicker clan thinking I'd be safe there, left early before the riots broke out on the bouncy castle too!

Well good thing to, it could have been UGLY. :)

Another good thing of the day was that all the beer money went to the Encounter Bay Footy Club. I estimate that between us we donated $150 towards country football less cost of beer.

Congrats to Sth Adelaide for organising a great day, pity the game didn't go down to the wire.

I was wondering how that worked and assumed the local club would benefit out of it.
I like the idea of all Easter games played in the country.
Only probs is club's like Encounter Bay have the better facilities than their immeidate rivals and profit more out of it, perhaps some way of spreading the profitis amongst the whole league would be good.
Heaps of locals and heaps of travellers down there too, even saw a group from the Noarlunga Football Club who don't even play in Great Southern.
Whoops, Im getting off track.
Back to the West supporter's thread of violence at Elizabeth, only good thing about fights at Elizabeth is that the lights are so poor that only people within 10 metres would see them anyway!

3 canteens are plenty I would have thought?

I will concede the point on booze vans though, at least one more would be good.

Normally I spend the game in one spot, just had to keep little miss smac moving while I tried to explain where pop was.

Hope he was OK smac.

Actually Ive had further thoughts on the subject of this thread, instead of blaming Elizabeth Oval I wonder how much has to do with the actual programming?

People often blame violence at Friday night games to alcohol when people have had a couple of hours after work to hit the piss.

On Saturday night games you'd have people who have been on the piss for 6 hours making it even worse. Just a thought.

Pretty fair point that. For 5.00pm kick off games over here, they often close all the pubs in the area for the same reason

The lighting appeared to be better spread across the whole groung on Sat. night than iy was last year, the dark areas in the pockets appeared to have been lit up. It was still difficult to see clearly across the ground. If the Elizabeth lights were at Norwood I think they would be sufficient (a lot better than Norwoods) but as the ground is a lot bigger I still think they need more lighting for league standard footy.....................and yes I know, they are better than Prospects (before someone throws that in)

I didn't go last year.
But I thought the lights were okay on the ground and around the arena.
There were times I struggled to see what was going on, but that had more to do with my eyesight, increasing level of inebbriation and inattention at times to the game.

Back to the original topic of this thread - I don't think one incident between supporters of the same side is something to get worked up about.
There was plenty of police presence and security seemed to be fairly evident.

I would say that there needs to be more bins. There was nowhere to put my empties but on the ground.

With the way North and West players are going in the last week I hope they have extra security on the beer booths at Prospect this week to keep the players away!

Perhaps it's those pesky people who used to support Norwood, but now support North wedgie.

I think the lights are fine. I manage to see things at least as well as at Adelaide oval.t
