IMHO The state leagues missed a chance at greater coverage they should've all sold the rights to fox .That is when fox lost the rights to the AFL and before re buying them :D

That's an interesting point - along with Dog_ger suggesting playing SANFL on weeknights (or even in summer) in another thread somewhere.

I know in England they have the lower divisions play during the week so there is often live soccer during the week on Sky Sports.

Could the SANFL take the opportunity of live Monday or Tuesday night footy from Adelaide Oval each week broadcast throughout Australia on Fox Sports. Would the nation be interested enough for Fox to make money out of it? Could it just be on Fox in South Australia?

Would it create more interest in the SANFL - keeping sponsorship up or would it take us away from what suburban footy is all about - Saturday afternoon footy.

I just wonder if the SANFL have discussed this and whether there has been any thought to increase exposure and lift the competition. To me it seems the SANFL clubs have taken big steps forward in recent years, but is the league doing enough to keep up and set trends beyond trying a couple of double headers or more Sunday afternoon footy.

I'm not convinced what has been suggested is the way to go, but it would be interesting to know if the SANFL regularly discuss new (and old) ideas on what can be done to more than survive and whether they are proactive in getting as much media exposure for our competition as possible. Not even having this weeks fixtures on the front page of the SANFL website probably suggests there is room for improvement...

I think Foxtel could be a good option for the SANFL in future years

Haven't thought through all the implications but I like the idea at first look ....

I thought he was talking about the South Sydney v Cantebury game?
Bit win to the Bulldogs in front of a record crowd.

Perfect opportunity to have a Fri night game with the Showclown on Sat arvo. I really don't think the SANFL realise the missed opportunities they have such as tonight. Despite the fact that it was still 20 odd degrees outside, schedule Fri night games early in the season regardless!

Are the SANFL looking after the diehard SANFL fans by scheduling predominantly Sat arvo games? One thing that the AFL misses out on are the people that regularly want to wander to local ovals at 2.20 for a game of footy? The Amateur league is joining the maddening crowd getting behind Fri night games, so why don't the SANFL?

the idea of midweek games is interesting.

why not have midweek games for a pre-season comp.
Matty Wade is a star and deserves more respect from the forum family!

That has more to do with Sky dictating game days for television purposes, than for the benefit of the lower leagues Aerie. The traditional three o'clock sat arvo kick off has long since past for EPL, with games played Friday night, Saturday night, Sunday lunch and afternoon and Monday nights. This week is a good example with Watford v Man U kicking off at 5:30 tonight and B4st4rds v Chelski playing at 3:00 tomorrow (both FA cup semi finals). Games that were orginally scheduled to kick off at 3:00 Sat arvo are rearranged if selected by Sky for live coverage and are moved to an alternative 'time slot' (Nice work if you already have a ticket and something else arranged that coincides with thenew time slot

The fans are as p1ssed about it over here as fans are over there about SANFL Sunday games.. If anything, Sky is responsible for f$%king up the lower leagues, by only investing in the top division. In some ways very similar to what has happened with the AFL.
