1. Like the decision or hate it, Norwood chose Trev Hill because he won the job on merit. Absolutely nothing to do with how much he gets paid. Whether anyone didn't apply because they thought they wouldn't get enough money (e.g. they'd get more, and possibly greater career prospects, as an AFL assistant coach), would be an issue for any SANFL club.fester69 wrote:You get what you pay for!! Like Easter Eggs from Cheap as Chips - the wrapping promises much but the chocolate tastes like @#*&! Norwood had a coach who was prepared to make the hard decisions, this made him unpopular with the "boy's club" so he was ousted. His name was Dale Lewis.
If we dont make the 5 (we wont) and when the board realise their mistake I hope we get a "bastard" with the balls to make the changes we need!
2. Dale Lewis was 'ousted'? Is there some conspiracy theory I haven't been alerted to? Or is your short-term memory just faltering?
Even though 1980TM had the wrong end of the stick with Trev Hill's playing credentials, the basic message was right-- it's that 10% (at most; sometimes just 1%) of extra effort/players sticking to the team plan, that makes the difference between a winning side and a losing one. At the end of the day, on-the-park results tell the story; it's Hill's job to work out how to extract that extra few percent.
To finish with gr31's closing comment, it's already a pretty young squad. The seriously-experienced guys within Norwood FC almost start and end with Gallagher and Borlace. Maybe Bown. Then you've got a range of semi-experienced guys or guys who developed elsewhere like Culpitt, Vlatko, Dawes, Bartemucci, McGuinness, Jackman. Most of the rest are genuine youngsters. Younger blokes need at least some wise heads with experience in the side to guide them (losing a massively-experienced general like Brett James hurt in this respect). Things like picking Tyrrell and Minson to debut together in the same game in ruck (something I've never seen before) while Tim Nicholas played 2s, making Luke Crouch force his way back in through the 2nds while some younger smalls get a game in the firsts, indicate that there's already a preference for youth. I don't know if Trevor Hill has the luxury of coaching to a 2 or 3-year plan, though!
