There was a guy from Norwood who I think played in the back pocket in the seventies who used to hold the ball really awkwardly - Greg Nicholson perhaps? But I can't vouch for him actually being a poor kick. He used to tilt the ball so that the top of the ball leaned forward and held it up the top.

Doug Smart used to be a shocker too.

Stephen Kernahan was terrible at times. At other times he'd be effective but ugly.

Russell Johnston (port) used to be fairly awkward I always thought. Dunno about quality though.

Glynnis Nunn's husband in the 80's played reserves for Sturt, and from memory his kicking was terrible. Couple of claim to fames there - one, he used to jog to and from the game and secondly married to GN. If you call that a C2F.

Ahhh, the old "Handbag"

i'll never forget watching collingwood play someone in the early 90's and James Manson won a free kick ddep in the fwd pocket, sensing he was less likely to thread it through, he faked what looked like a serious hamstring injury. The entire world that was watching knew that it was all rubbish, but sure enough here was big Jim rubbing his hamstring like he'd been shot.
Rocket Ron Mckeown happily wretched the ball and slotted it from the ugly side of the boundary, Collingwood players came from everywhere to celebrate and there running 100 miles and hour towards everyone was the amazingly recovered Manson.

Incidentley, on James Manson, another infamous moment in his career was when pint size piss ant Eddie Hocking slotted him one in the goog at was then known as footy park.
for a guy who acted like a goose, played like a goose and looked funnily enough looked like a goose still has a premiership medal around his neck and Tony shaw who was pivotal in that GF give a large amount of credit for that premiership to Manson.
Sorry people I only deal in facts!

That sounds like a drop punt - a legitimate kick which has gone out of fashion like the drop kick. I seem to recall it being an accurate kick for goal.

Was going to mention Paul Thomas. Kicked a goal somehow at Norwood. Why? Because it happened so quickly he forgot briefly he couldn't actually kick straight! Worst set shot since Heath Hopwood.

I saw Wilbur Wilson do the same thing - mark the kick out while standing the mark and kick a goal. Can't remember against who tho. :?

Round 1 1985 at FP ... Balmey, who was usually a reliable kick, didn't seem to find the humour in it as his teammates and coaching staff did.
