Two qualities Sturt circa 2007 have are they are super honest and super fit. If the boys get off to a good start and are with the 'dogs at quarter time, expect the contest to go all the way to the final siren.

Some of us supporters may bit a bit cocky - it's often tongue in cheek - but I don't think the coach or players are. One of the reasons that they are having a good season is fitness - ie their performance in the second half has been consistantly better than their opposition and they have enough depth this year not to have to play injured players. Their attitude so far has been great and Roy has commented that they come to play every week which must be hard after a good win against say the Eagles as last year's premiers to then play a lower team with the same level of intensity. Sooner or later they are going to lose one but I don't think it will be on the smaller grounds such as Unley where they enjoy it in close.

Interesting I'm being called cocky now. I would have thought cockyness involves some self over-rating, but the discrepancy in all factors that determine which is the better side sits in favour of the dogs, no question.

And now we know why they laughed at us and didn't care what we said. I remember they always seemed so bullet-proof. Now I know they really were!

That's a very cocky definition you've provided us with Grahaml.

In what way? What do you think Sturt does better than the dogs?

You'll understand from my posts this week that Sturt will be lucky to run more than 3 quarters with the Dogs, and that one quarter where we don't could make the final result very embarrassing for us. What I mean is cockiness is basically brash confidence, not self over-rating. You're so cocky that you can't see how cocky you are.

I'm sorry if you meant just confidence, but cocky generally means over confidence as I have known it. I thought you were stating that I was over confident.

Only 1 AFL listed player there. Is it an important point to note the dogs have had little disruptment from AFL listed players dropping in and out, even over the last 10 years, compared to other clubs. The players the dogs have had, generally stay in or stay out.

On paper!

But I suspect that last week was Roy experimenting with flexibility - ie giving Havelberg some experience in the backlines. So I would expect them to actually line up like that.

that situation the dogs are in with AFL LISTED PLAYERS, is what Id love to have at glenelg. its a proven formula the dogs have had.........

well done to the past success and the future success the dogs will have, including this years premiership......

The impartial little cherub I am lol I expect history to be re-written come 4.35pm on Saturday.

We haven't won at Unley against CD since 1985 and one of our gun recruits celebrates his 22nd birthday on Sat June 23rd.

What a great early present for him if we can win. We could have won at Unley last year but for some Gowan magic in the Final Quarter.

Rick will be totally focused knowing how sweet a victory against his beloved Doggies would be.

Hopefully there'll be a big smile on his astute face come Final Siren time :D :D :D

Go U Blues!!

So does the mini draft situation with the bottom clubs getting players actually offer an advantage to the better clubs instead of being an advantage to the less successful clubs? Are clubs able to pass on a selection if they want? And what reaction would they get? Should we bring in a system where it goes on a permanent rotation? I think this wa the original model in fact.

I think the Gowans are looking forward to knocking Ricky off his perch this game. I expect because it's MacGowan the dogs, especially the senior ones, to be pretty fired up actually.

How many of Sturt's team for Saturday will have been born when Sturt last won at Unley? And how many will remember beating the dogs there?

IMO, AFL players are a pain in the arse unless they are born and bred diehard local lads (examples Stuy Dew, Stuy Cochrane). Very few exceptions to this rule (Brent Guerra the only one at Centrals I can think of).

well the way to avoid AFL listed players is to pick up those players who will spend the majority of the year at AFL level............if only GLENELG would do this.

it probably has been an advantage to the doggies because when its their pick, the players left are players who will spend the year at AFL level or cause minimal impact and disruption........

I'd disagree with that from an Eagles point of view. Best example would be McKenzie, who we ended up recruiting back to the club. Knights, Watts and now Batsanis have all been good for us. Knights in particular I've often seen him in Eagles official clothing watching the game whenever he has the chance, going out to the huddles etc.

The only AFL player I've been disappointed in in recent times was a home grown player in Bock.

As for the game, Central should win by 7 or 8 goals. Far too much class for Sturt, who I expect to put up a decent fight for 2-3 quarters.
