Paul Blandis and D.B. on 5rph thursday night

All discussions to do with the SANFL

Some of you people missed the point of the original post. Despite whether you think they do a good job or not and whether they annoy the crap out of you (they certainly annoy me!) a little bit of homework before a weekly Football Show wouldn't go astray. How hard would it be to have the published results including the crowd figures in fron tof them instead of them guessing and getting it totally wrong.

They are obsessed with PDK, Smithfield Crash blah blah blah. I know shows like theirs need sponsors but they go way over the top especially Blandis (and he is so anti North) DB who should give it away and retire to the old folks home. Darryl Smith at least is calm and constructive and thankgod for him being on the broadcasts.

P.S. Which one of the panel yesterday mentioned being a student at High School where Malcolm Greenslade was a PA Teacher and the fact that Malcolm tapped it on his happily married mother. That was an incredibly stupid comment on public radio. Yep very professional.

And they probably are top blokes too, But that does not qualify a good caller though does it.

That's beside the point, SP.
This thread isn't about whether they are nice guys or not (I have no reason to believe they are not) but is discussing aspects of their call.

I too really commend them on the efforts they put in to cover the SANFL, regularly covering two games a weekend, and overall I think they do a great job in promoting the League.

no they didn't, i presume it is cheaper to take the 3aw program they did    but why would 2 stations do the same (& only) game on the day (same goes for the abc, i dont know what they broadcasted)
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

Call me niaive(spelling), but I would not be suprised to hear that they read the threads on this site or at least get info about it. Jimmy and Coorong regularly get a mention (and apparently I got an hello last week), on matchday, and I have no idea how they would possibly know that I listen on line from the Uk unless they read it on here.

Us geographically challenged Norwood supporters get regular mentions now, which all started when someone on the Leggies forum put a request into RPH so maybe someone at North did the same for you :)

I'm all for it if it gives them some good publicity etc or makes their sponsors realise how valuable a service they provide...so come on you other teams get your geo challenged a mention

I even heard the Norwood on-line followers get mentioned in the Sturt v Port game last Sunday! Full credit to them tho for acknowledging the diehards, particularly given some of the times other people have to listen to the live broadcasts at in their 'home' countries.

Haha They'll be inviting us onto Big brother next (god forbid 8-[ )

At least it's a reasonable start time for the UK and European element this week (11am UK). Sympathy should go to our American cousins...think it's about 6am for the east coast crowd. See you all there...server permitting

JAS, i heard you get a shout out last week from the rph crew :). I, as well as others, have been lucky to get a shout out every now and then but lately they have been doing it each week. Others to get shout outs are a few sturt lads in china/japan, yourself in Scotland, Coorong etc...Its great to get a mention, esp when ya mates ring up and say 'oi, wtf were you doing on the radio from NY ya b'stard etc etc ;).

This Friday night will suit me ok, I have a meeting at 1030 am (which i rescheduled from 10 am knowing i had the footy to listen too). I will be up nice and early to listen and it should be over by 9:30 when i have to leave home. Hopefully Sturt can get me off to a good start for the weekend :D

Good to see you'll be online too...hopefully if the server gets crowded then between us all we should be able to post regular scores :D As well as myself the RPH boys have given shout outs to Locky in London, Swiss Cheese in Switzerland and USAbasedRedleg just down the road from you in Virginia...this is turning into a footy UN  I think PB and Co get a kick out of knowing just how global they are and if it helps get a few extra $$$ from the sponsors then fair play to them.

They definately read the site (well the parts of it they want to), they mentioned it again twice this morning.
Only thing that annoys me is we could make 500 positive posts about 5RPH on here and 2 negative ones and they'll still only mention the negative posts on the soapbox, whoops I mean radio show.
And yes DB and PB we KNOW you don't get paid for Mon, Wed and Thurs slots and yes we are aware you DO get paid for your commentating on the weekends (which you conveniently chose to leave out of your spiel twice this morning).
We all love what RPH does and we don't mind you blowing your own trumpet all the time but FFS look at the positive posts on this site and not just the negative ones.
You're supposed to be media people so FFS get the full picture before making comment rather than a half arsed effort of just reading a couple of negative posts. Don't be hypoctricial by doing the very thing you bleat about.
Christ, if we only mentioned the negative things from RPH and not the positive things Im sure you'd be a tad annoyed too.
I would have thought DS would have learnt from his little effort last year when he apologised to me over the phone.

Why not surprise me one Monday or Wednesday morning by mentioning how RPH gets free advertising of their coverage on "the website" every week, why not mention the plethora of people praising the efforts of 5RPH on "the website", why not mention the plethora of people from "the website" that contribute to your radiothon. Why not even be as courteous as to actually mention "the website" by its proper name as is courteously done to RPH on here, we don't refer to RPH as "the radio".
You work at a radio station so it shouldn't be too hard to change the record.

Didn't hear the article you are referring to Wedgie, but well put. There is a lot of good stuff on here regarding 5RPH. I have a laugh at some of the things they come out with and get frustrated at the wrong calls. RPOTYA voting with vouch for this, but I have always tempered the critisism with praise for their efforts. Made a point of this last week when they reported the North game via mobile due to technical problems with the broadcast.

Come on 5RPH boys, be even handed.

Well said, Wedgie, a well considered post which deserves an answer.

There is no reason why SAFooty and 5RPH football can't both be positive factors together for the benefit of the game.

All pretty fair and reasonable stuff - hope the personality isn't getting bigger than the station. Would be nice for them to remember that, as part of the media, they have the right to criticise players, people etc - constructive criticism works both ways.

Good on ya 5RPH keep up the good work lads.
