LOL...the thread has nothing to do with them yet they turn it around???? and they wonder why they get the publicity

...and a couple of others here happy to give the thread a few taps in the same direction.

Anyway - apologies all - back on topic.

My son and I made the journey. Very good atmosphere (as expected) and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Just didn't get to see much footy until late in the game (he's kindy age and can spot a playground through a crowd ) Thanks Macca19 for another quality write-up. It helped fill in a few blanks.

Macca19 wrote:Sturt do look very impressive. They have a young squad but they play for each other and they have a very talented group of young footballers.

Yeah, it seems (from what I've seen of them) that alot of what they lack in experience they make up for in exuberance.

Sturt's 7 wins to date have been 9 points, 26, 9, 16, 50 (South), 7 (Centrals) and 27 points. Even with the South result that's around 20 points per win (vs 40 points per loss). Seems they've found an edge in the closer ones. Time will tell.

Sadly, there are a some adults who could take a few lessons from the kids on how to play nice. Saw a bit of that bile from afar - and a bloke with a very nice zoom lense not far away.

As much as Im a fan of Rick and the style of footy they're playing isn't it a bit of a myth as far as them being "Baby Blues"??

For eg today in the budget they had 8 players who had played at least 50 SANFL league games.
Port also had 8

And as for the rest of the teams playing this round:
North have 9.
Eagles have 11.
Glenelg have 5.
West have 4.
South have 5.
Central have 11.

Im not sure what Norwood's count would be but its no coincidence that 4 of the top 5 sides have the most 50 gamers in their side.

Its a 1976 mini Wedgie, thats why it is on his plate, not for football purposes.

Sadly Macca I think Mum is no longer with us,Dad still goes to the footy with him but is not looking in great shape. The fella in question is a legend, sits near the scoreboard at Alberton and waves two smallish flags Glenn Dix style.Never misses a game.

Hargraves looked disinterested at times. Was a waste of space for Port yesterday.

HArry Miller i will ask the Port fans again ?? what is going on with this guy.

Simon Feast looks the fittest he has been in years. Looks in great form for Sturt. Depth seems to be the real test for Sturt this year.

Have to agree with wedgies on this one - the Sturt line-up would have to be one of the more experienced in the SANFL - inluding quite a few players with a premiership under their belt. Compare this to teams like West and Glenelg and I don't think you can really call them a "baby" team.

Sturt have a strange list. They have a fair few old guys and a bunch of kids but not much in between.

Of who played yesterday, the list was:

17-21: 13 players
22-26: 4 players
27+ : 6 players

In terms of games played
0-50: 15 players
51-100: 1 player
101-150: 4 players
150+ : 2 players

As you can see they have a very experienced top end but no middle ground.

I almost believed you, but you make it sound like Weslo actually did some proactive security work.

if anything they aggravated the situation, both guys were outside the ground and seperated, but Weslo saw the need to start punching the sturt supporter while he was pinned up against a car, bringing his gf into the picture, and starting the whole thing up again worse than it was to begin with.

It looks a pretty good blend of youth and experience to me and the team is starting to perform regularly. I am upgrading their assessment to a probable top three finisher.

We still need to get the Torrens / Redlegs monkeys off our back this year to be real finals contenders IMO

yet if you look at the sturt website they have a different version.... no guy in a westies jumper....?

http://www.doubleblue.org/forum/viewtop ... &start=180

I walked past the incident as I was leaving. The security guy's had one Sturt supporter & a Port supporter restrained as they waited for the police.

Apparently what happened (from asking Sturt & Port supporters who witnessed the incident) was these two supporters were arguing and confronting each other. It must of been fairly heated as the (girlfriend/ wife / partner or whatever is politically correct) of the Sturt supported threw a few (and connected with quite a few on the Port supporter). The Port supporter reacted and decked the female.

Then it was apparently it was on between the 2 men. As I was walking past when the police had arrived and I could still see the female having some strong words towards the Port supporter. I could only imagine what was said.

So it sounds like the sturt woman threw a few punches at the port supporter so he defended himself by throwing one back at her. Then her boyfriend stepped in. I don't feel any pity towards the woman if that's what happened.

What do People think of Clayton?

I think the guy is a gun, but in the games I've seen this year he seems to be trying to get a "Tough guy" reputation, and for me, he doen't need to add it to his game.

Him pushing Madness over while he was talking to the umpire was as stoopid a thing as I've seen in a while.
